DC/NYC | Day 6

When we planned this trip, we had always planned to spend a decent amount of time in Washington DC and then travel up to New York and cram as much into a 24hr period as we could. So, after a last great day in Washington, we were ready to hop on the train and hot foot it up to New York City. I didn’t love NYC last time I went. I mean it is impressive, it’s good, but it’s not completely my cup of tea, so Emma and I were going to experience things more up her street and see if that changed my mind. Theatre on Thursday | The Phantom of the Opera

Perfomance: The Phantom of the Opera

Performance Type: Musical

Location: Majestic Theatre, New York

Date: 8th September 2017

Rating: 4 Stars

Over the past few months I have been enjoying and immersing myself in the world of live theatre and performance. I’ve been to see plays, concerts, and musicals, and really enjoyed the variety of shows I have watched. So, after reviewing just one of these (The Killers Wonderful Wonderful Tour Date which can be viewed here), I have decided to review each theatre trip individually. And because we all like an alliterative title, I’m going to call it ‘Theatre on Thursday’.

I was going to try and do this post every week, but life got in the way, so I have decided to do it as and when I remember. Last time round, I reviewed Two Gentleman of Verona, and it’s safe to say that this week’s instalment is pretty different. Continue reading “Theatre on Thursday | The Phantom of the Opera”

Fat Friday: Week 24

Good evening everybody, how are we all? I realise that this makes me sound like an old person, but, aren’t the nights getting lighter? I commute at any point between 5am-10:30pm, depending on my work shift, so it makes a huge difference to my mood if I drive in the light, and it also makes me feel like I haven’t spent the whole of the day in the office! And as the days get longer, the weather turns, and we all end up happier. Yay! That’s the theory at least!

Fat Friday is a weekly blog post tracking my weight loss and fitness journey, used to keep myself accountable, keep a record of my progress, and share hints & tips that have helped me. To track my progress, or read my previous entries, click here.

Please join me, support me, and help me along my way as I aim to improve my life for the better! Continue reading “Fat Friday: Week 24”

Theatre on Thursday | The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Perfomance: The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Performance Type: Play/Musical

Location: Liverpool Everyman Theatre

Date: 29th October 2016

Rating: 3 Stars

Over the past few months I have been enjoying and immersing myself in the world of live theatre and performance. I’ve been to see plays, concerts, and musicals, and really enjoyed the variety of shows I have watched. So, after reviewing just one of these (The Killers Wonderful Wonderful Tour Date which can be viewed here), I have decided to review each theatre trip individually. And because we all like an alliterative title, I’m going to call it ‘Theatre on Thursday’.

This week’s review is of a show that I actually saw quite some time ago. When Emma first moved in, she told me all about a show she had seen in Oxford when visiting friends, and as she had really enjoyed it, she asked if I would like to go and see it when it showed at the Liverpool Everyman theatre. The problem? It was Shakespeare’s Two Gentleman of Verona, and I am not usually the biggest fan of anything Shakespeare. It was a modern adaptation, and Emma had rated it highly, so I decided that I would give it a go. Continue reading “Theatre on Thursday | The Two Gentlemen of Verona”

London: Day 3

London is a pretty incredible city that has things to do in all weather. It was a good job really, as the rain from Sunday had morphed into driving rain when we woke up on Monday. Thankfully, we had a great day planned, one that we had been looking forward to a year, so the rain wasn’t quite so much of a hardship. The whole point of this London trip was to see Hamilton, and after a nervous time waiting for the theatre to be finished and the previews to be rearranged, we knew that the time was finally here.

London: Day 2

I really do love being a tourist in London. I love walking through the old squares, navigating the tube, and taking in the array of people and smells that permeate the streets. I even like London when it is freezing cold, which is a good thing really, because when we woke up on Sunday morning, it was snowing. Unfortunately the snow wasn’t sticking in the city, but there was a layer of sludgy ice on the floor and the temperatures were Baltic. Sunday was all about the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford to see Hogwarts in the Snow, and it really turned out to be a day that was affected by the snow: it tooketh and it gaveth in equal measures.

London: Day 1

When you think of London, every one of us has a different opinion. Whether you love it or hate it, and no matter what you like to do there, London offers a lot for a flying visitor! Emma and I spend 4 days in London at the beginning of December, and had an absolute blast , hitting theatres, taking in tours, and generally walking all around the capital. I’ve never really been to London around Christmas, and although I was worried about the craziness, I was excited to see the city lit up with Christmas lights.

We managed to squeeze so much out of the 4 days we had there, and barely stopped, so I’ve split my round up of the city into 4 posts (one for each day, obv) in an attempt to try and do our trip justice! Continue reading “London: Day 1”
