Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Book Quotes

Do you get a more wonderfully perfect topic than analysing your favourite words from literature and compiling them into one post? No, I don’t think you do either. I absolutely adored this week’s challenge of finding my favourite book quotes, the only problem came from narrowing them down.

For all of you who don’t know what Top Ten Tuesday is, or don’t know how to get involved, click here. The lovely folks at Broke and Bookish teamed together to create this awesome weekly prompt, which is now hosted by the wonderful Jana @ The Artsy Reader Girl. Quite simply, you list the top ten of the topic prompt.

This week, I have elected to do something that I usually dislike. I don’t like leaving a choice without some words of explanation and reasoning, however, in a week all about words, I have decided to let the quotes themselves do the talking:

“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”
– Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

***

“Dreams is full of mystery and magic…..Do not try to understand them.”
– Roald Dahl, The BFG

***

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
– J K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

***

“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.”
– V E Schwab, A Darker Shade of Magic

***

“Not all those who wander are lost”
– J R R Tolkien, Lord of the Rings

***

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
– Neil Gaiman, Coraline

***

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
– Dr. Seuss, Oh The Places You’ll Go

***

“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”
– Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

***

“A world of happier men and happier women who are truer to themselves. And this is how to start: We must raise our daughters differently. We must also raise our sons differently.”
― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, We Should All Be Feminists

***

“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, To gain all while you give, To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live.”
― Hans Christian Andersen, The Fairy Tale of My Life: An Autobiography

It is no surprise that I value adventure so highly when you look at the over-arching theme within these quotes, after all, “books are a uniquely portable form of magic.”

What are you favourite book quotes?

”I am the greatest”

aliI don’t tend to write posts about specific people, or about current events, but sometimes, something happens that makes you want to write and talk about something or someone. The death of Muhammad Ali at 74 is one of those occasions. Muhammad Ali was quite simply one of the greatest sportsmen that has ever, and will ever, live. He transcended his sport and became a household name, and his death is a tragic loss. Continue reading “”I am the greatest””

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Inspiring Quotes from Books

toptentuesdayAs we have a little down time after a busy 10 days in Perth and Margaret River, I’m finally sitting back down to write the posts I am behind on, and sort the photos that still sit on memory cards. I missed last weeks Top Ten Tuesday, so while I take a break from writing about my adventures, I thought I would complete this week’s list. Once upon a time is forever.

I realise, as I begin to write this new post, that I am being slightly hypocritical. Anyone who read my last post will notice I said I am not one for inspirational quotes. That is a little bit of a lie. I appreciate a good quote as  much as the next person, I just don’t find many, if any, truely inspirational. I say this because later in the post I am going to share my favourite quotes about reading, There are a fair few! I feel they sum up a lot of what I think about books and reading that I couldn’t say better myself.

I have been thinking about writing a books/reading post since I first got my blog, but just never actually got round to it. My friend Emma (The Terror Of Knowing) recently wrote a really good post on reading and books, which inspired me to write my own.

Reading is blooming awesome. There is nothing quite like getting lost in a good book and discovering that the bath water has gone cold, or it is in fact 3am, and not 11:30pm, or that you have a necklace shaped tan-line (insert burnline here) because you stayed in the sun a lot longer than you meant to. Expolring new characters, worlds, adventures, and stories is one of life’s great pleasures. I don’t know how anyone can go through a week, never mind their life, without reading.
