Fat Friday: Week 31

Oops I did it again! I know, I realise it’s Saturday but in my defence we’re having the best weather we’ve had in months and my friends are to visit us for the weekend, so I have been a little bit preoccupied. I’ve had a busy week at work, followed by a couple of days of catching up and getting outdoors. I think the summer is arriving, and I am all about this better weather, this can stay.

Fat Friday is a weekly blog post tracking my weight loss and fitness journey, used to keep myself accountable, keep a record of my progress, and share hints & tips that have helped me. To track my progress, or read my previous entries, click here.

Theatre on Thursday | The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Perfomance: The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Performance Type: Play/Musical

Location: Liverpool Everyman Theatre

Date: 29th October 2016

Rating: 3 Stars

Over the past few months I have been enjoying and immersing myself in the world of live theatre and performance. I’ve been to see plays, concerts, and musicals, and really enjoyed the variety of shows I have watched. So, after reviewing just one of these (The Killers Wonderful Wonderful Tour Date which can be viewed here), I have decided to review each theatre trip individually. And because we all like an alliterative title, I’m going to call it ‘Theatre on Thursday’.

This week’s review is of a show that I actually saw quite some time ago. When Emma first moved in, she told me all about a show she had seen in Oxford when visiting friends, and as she had really enjoyed it, she asked if I would like to go and see it when it showed at the Liverpool Everyman theatre. The problem? It was Shakespeare’s Two Gentleman of Verona, and I am not usually the biggest fan of anything Shakespeare. It was a modern adaptation, and Emma had rated it highly, so I decided that I would give it a go. Continue reading “Theatre on Thursday | The Two Gentlemen of Verona”

The Killers | Wonderful Wonderful

When you go and see something, and you want to remember it, there is nothing better than taking a picture, capturing it on video, and writing down how it made you feel. So, for posterity sake, I’ve decided to review The Killer’s performance at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 9th November 2017. I say the show, it’s about the whole event, it’s probably once of the longest posts I have ever written, and it shows just how excited, happy, and blown away by the whole thing I actually was!

Let me start with a little about me and my music tastes. I listen to a lot of genres, more rock, Disney, and Musicals than anything else, and a lot of my favourite songs and artists are more renowned for periods before I was born. I don’t go to gigs often (the lasts ones I went to were in 2012ish) and I won’t just go and see anyone. The last 3 artists I went to see were Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney, and I had pretty much decided that I would only go and see ‘mega artists’, of which I wouldn’t have classed the Killers as before now. So, when we were deciding to go and see them I was (quietly and internally) wondering if it would be worth it and whether they would be anything more than a couple of good songs from a decade ago.

Guys, there are moments in your life when you look back and think ‘wow, that was a brilliant night, very few nights will top that’, and this, well, this was most definitely one of them.

New Years Resolution: 1st Quarter Check In

At the end of last year, I decided to compile a list of resolutions for 2017 in the hope of improving various aspects of my life. I set myself some rather large goals, and as I have a tendency to set them and the completely forget what they are, I have decided to check in with my progress over the year. So, now as a quarter of the year has gone, it seems like the perfect time to check my progress for January, February, and March. Just to recap, my New Years Resolutions can be found here. Friday Favourites: 10 of my Favourite UK Towns and Cities

york1Last year, I did a post called ”Friday Favourites: 12 Places Everyone Should See in Liverpool”. I intended to make it a regular thing, but unfortunately life, Christmas, and overtime at work got in the way. Now as those things are no longer holding me back (as much) from blogging, I am starting it up again. And with it I plan to do what I always wanted to and make this a more regular feature, taking my blog back in the travel direction.

Friday favourites is a fortnightly post featuring travel tips, guides, advice, and thoughts based on my travel experiences!

Friday Favourites: 12 Places Everyone Should See in Liverpool

liverI have been searching the internet for a good travel meme or post collective to get involved in for some time. Y’know, one similar to Top Ten Tuesday, or Top 5 Wednesday, but focusing on travel and not books. I haven’t managed to find something I could get hooked into or take part in, so I decided if it hasn’t been made, make it yourself. And so I have decided to start ‘Friday Favourites’. Each week I plan to mention my favourite things about a particular city, place, country, travel method, tips, etc.

Justice

The momentous and overdue verdicts that dominated both the front and back pages of the nations press is surprisingly hard to write about.  It’s been everywhere, and finally for a positive reason, but to sum it up in words has proven to be really difficult.

Liverpool was made for me and I was made for Liverpool

I have mentioned this before, but for those of you that don’t know, I am a huge sports fan. (For more info see I like Sportz and I don’t care who knows) My favourite sports by a country marathon is football and favourite team, in case you haven’t realised from previous posts, is Liverpool. I have followed Liverpool for as long as I have followed football, and sport in general, and many of my happiest moments are tied to momentous occasions in Liverpool’s history. Yes that may be pathetic, but that is how it is.

I can remember my first ever Liverpool football match as clear as anything. My earliest footballing memories were of Michael Owen scoring against Wimbledon, and against Argentina in the world Cup (I know, they are pretty good footballing memories to have as your first) and from then, I just wanted to watch Owen, play for Liverpool, at Anfield. It came on December 28th 1998, my Mum’s birthday, against Newcastle United. I can remember us going 2-0 down and being upset, and then watching Michael Owen score, standing on my chair and being completely drowned out as my little girl screams were lost in the crowd. A player called Riedle, who for the life of me I can’t remember except for this game, scored one, then Owen scored what turned out to be the winner and Riedle completed his brace not long before the final whistle. From then I knew I would never tire of watching Liverpool play. For a long time, I never saw Liverpool lose, or draw, not until I went to see Lazio play with my brothers. I <3 Liverpool

I’m not normally one to randomly write I ❤ …… but I have decided that when it comes to Liverpool, that sums up my feelings well. I realise I start sentences/posts with ”I’m not normally one to…” or ”I don’t usually…” but this really is one of those cases.

magic of liverpool
”The magic of Liverpool is that it isn’t England” Margaret Simey

I have lived in Liverpool since birth. I am 100% a scouser through and through. I often say to people that Liverpool is the greatest city on Earth, and I sort of believed it. It wasn’t like I didn’t believe what I was saying, but I really took all the great things about the city for granted. Having friends up this weekend has reaffirmed my love undoubtedly, and even though we just aimlessly walked round the city, it is mightily impressive.
