Les Misérables Readalong | Week Five: Valjean

Welcome back to Miserable Monday! For those who don’t know, my friend Emma @ The Terror of Knowing and I are hosting #MiserablesMay, a Les Miserables readalong that is taking place throughout the month of May. We announced it last month, and I wasn’t 100% sure I thought it was a good idea to tackle such a long book that I didn’t have much interest in reading. Good news though, I finished the book on time, and have read and reviewed Volume I here, Volume II here, Volume III here and Volume IV here if you want a refresher.

This was a short reading week because there were only 5 days left of May to finish one of the longer sections of the book. I managed though, and finished the book on May 31st, so just squeezed in on time!

Now, a small disclaimer before I start: Emma is the English student and the more academically minded reviewer out of the pair of us. It’s great, she writes incredible reviews that mix knowledge and academia with humour and gifs, and is the place to go for the more in depth reviews/updates. Mine are going to be a little shorter, and probably lacking an seriousness at all, so strap in! Continue reading “Les Misérables Readalong | Week Five: Valjean”

Les Misérables Readalong | Week Four: Saint Denis

Welcome back to Miserable Monday! For those who don’t know, my friend Emma @ The Terror of Knowing and I are hosting #MiserablesMay, a Les Miserables readalong that is taking place throughout the month of May. We announced it last month, and I wasn’t 100% sure I thought it was a good idea to tackle such a long book that I didn’t have much interest in reading. Good news though, I am completely up to date, and have read and reviewed Volume I here, Volume II here, and and Volume III here!

This weeks was a little bit up and downI absolute devoured the first 100 pages of this weeks volume in one go. I literally couldn’t put the book down. This came as a bit of a shock in comparison to the three weeks before, and unfortunately did disappear late in the volume. I finished on time though!

Les Misérables Readalong | Week Three: Marius

Welcome back to Miserable Monday! For those who don’t know, my friend Emma @ The Terror of Knowing and I are hosting #MiserablesMay, a Les Miserables readalong that is taking place throughout the month of May. We announced it last month, and I wasn’t 100% sure I thought it was a good idea to tackle such a long book that I didn’t have much interest in reading, but I am happy to report that I finished and reviewed (I mean if you can call it that) Volume I  two weeks ago, and read and reviewed Volume II last week, and I read literally the whole of Volume III in a day to get up to date!

I have to say that I wasn’t as impressed by whole sections of this volume and haven’t got as many thoughts and feelings on it as I had in previous weeks. It started so blandly that even the strong volume end wasn’t enough to stop it being my least favourite volume so far.

London: Day 1

When you think of London, every one of us has a different opinion. Whether you love it or hate it, and no matter what you like to do there, London offers a lot for a flying visitor! Emma and I spend 4 days in London at the beginning of December, and had an absolute blast , hitting theatres, taking in tours, and generally walking all around the capital. I’ve never really been to London around Christmas, and although I was worried about the craziness, I was excited to see the city lit up with Christmas lights.

We managed to squeeze so much out of the 4 days we had there, and barely stopped, so I’ve split my round up of the city into 4 posts (one for each day, obv) in an attempt to try and do our trip justice! Continue reading “London: Day 1”
