Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books of 2017

Guys, guys, I’m sad. Today is the last top ten Tuesday until the middle of August. What am I gonna do for Blog post ideas now, eh? So, before we get started, an extra big shout out to all the folks at Broke and Bookish for doing such a good job for all of us.

For all of you who don’t know what Top Ten Tuesday is, or don’t know how to get involved, click here. The lovely folks at Broke and Bookish tam together to produce a book related topic each week, and you simply list the top ten of that topic. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. T5W: SFF Covers

It seems like this week is all about the pretty book covers and sexy cover art that is out there, doesn’t it. Yesterday, I posted as part of Top Ten Tuesday, and to continue this on, I am also doing the T5W SFF covers to compliment it. Yey for book covers!

Bout of Books 18: It’s a wrap

bob-expert06And that, as they say ladies and gentlemen, is that. I can’t believe we are over a week into the new year. I can’t believe that the readathon is over once again. I have had a really good week, in life, in work, and in reading, so it has been a pretty good start to the year all in all, how about you?

Anyway, the readathon. How did you get on? Continue reading “Bout of Books 18: It’s a wrap”

Bout of Books 18: Day 5

bob-expert06I’m getting that Friday feeling. I have nothing major planned for the weekend except lounging around, a cinema trip, and a Tavern breakfast, and it is glorious to think of doing so little. Well, not little, reading, watching, and bullet journalling. Just a 10hr shift before then. Not too bad….?! Oh wait, the gym after… Continue reading “Bout of Books 18: Day 5”

Bout of Books 18: Day 4

bob-expert06I am in denial that this is the half way point and I am going to pretend that it’s just going to go on forever, OK? Good! I have a normal shift slot, length, everything today, no overtime or crazy starts or finishes, which makes a weirdly nice change. It’s the local pub’s quiz of the year tonight, and I will actually have an evening to do things. I am hoping the earlier start also means more reading time of course too!

Bout of Books 18: Day 2

bob-expert06Well, if yesterday is anything to go by and I can replicate my success, then today is hopefully going to be another booktastic reading day. I ended up shifting through the rest of my first book, and reading 50 pages of my second. This never normally happens, I normally struggle to get going and rally at the end. It makes a nice change! To see my progress from yesterday, click here.

How are you getting on so far? If you haven’t signed up yet, but are still interested, fear not, you can still sign up here until midnight tonight! Continue reading “Bout of Books 18: Day 2”

Bout of Books 18: Day 1

bob18Welcome back guys, can you believe how quickly time has gone since Bout of Books 17?! It feels like only yesterday I was complaining about how it had gone to fast, and here we are again. I hope you’re taking part too, if not, it’s not too late to join in. We’re all low-key and friendly here, so why not sign up here? You won’t regret it, promise! I’ve been doing Bout of Books for a couple of years now, and have kept up with the readathon from far flung destinations such as Roi-Et Thailand, and Canberra, Australia, so you really have no excuses!

Friday Reads: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I don’t think I ever formally declared my intentions to participate I NanoWriMo (and if I did, I must have wiped it from my memory permanently!). I decided to pull back a little on the daily blogging I had taken to participating in during November and NanoWriMo. In part, this was to enable more writing time for NanoWriMo, but after 8/9 days I spectacularly failed so that portion of the plan didn’t really help much. The other reason was the enjoyment of blogging. I used to love writing posts for different things, different each day and week, but once I was daily blogging, and joining group blog events, I began to feel like some themes were a little repetitive, and that I was viewing it more as a chore than a hobby. And so here we are, 40 days and a couple of Strictly Saturdays blog posts later, and I am back! Continue reading “Friday Reads: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”

Friday Reads: Spooooooooky

The nights are drawing in, the clocks go back this weekend, and spooky Halloween activities are in full swing. From next week everywhere will have their full Christmas displays on show, it gets close to my birthday and Thanksgiving, and this year we have the hotly debated and fiercely contested US election results. I can’t believe it’s that late in the year already.

As another Friday comes and goes, I am back to being on my own for the weekend as Emma is going back to Thornaby to visit her family. It’s going to be a little odd to go back to pottering round the house on my own for the weekend. I’m in work on both weekend days, but the time spent in between shifts is going to be spent sorting the house out, reading, and Nano Prep. Continue reading “Friday Reads: Spooooooooky”
