I absolutely love the first day of a holiday, when you wake up in a new place and you’re ready to explore. Labor day weekend in the USA is a major deal, so we knew Washington DC would be busy, so had sedate Sunday plans to get in some snacks and groceries, to visit the zoo, and have an evening out in Georgetown. Have you ever heard of a place, and have people who you are close to hail from there, and never really knew a whole lot about it or visited before? Well, for me that place is Ohio. I know of it, a little of the sporting and development history, but not really a whole lot about the cities, the energy, and the culture.
Reader, I was blown away. I’ve visited a lot of cities, in fact a lot in the US alone, and Columbus, Ohio is something special. It has that spark, that energy, that feeling that washes over you as soon as you arrive.
The last major leg of the trip for Jon and I was to travel to the much hyped, much recommended Kruger National Park. I had shopped round for good rates on a safari to the park, and we had settled on one that had tented accommodation. After the experiences is in Victoria Falls, I wasn’t hugely looking forward to staying in a tent, especially after realising how cold it can get in South Africa at that time of year.
The big 5 is something I would love to see, so this leg of the trip was actually the first bit we sorted! The big 5, for those who don’t know, is rhinos, leopards, lions, buffalo, and elephants. Continue reading “Kruger: The Big 5”
