Adulting | University Illusions: The Alcohol Edition

As another September rolls around, the student offers, packages, and nights out are being advertised everywhere, and the wonder of fresher’s fever and money for alcohol. University is the time to make new friends, discover yourself, move out of your parental home, and spread your wings. Oh, and get a degree along the way too.

So what if you’re not all about the nights out? What if you’re not into alcohol binges and hangover wasted days? What is university REALLY like?

I am going to start this with a small disclaimer, and a little bit about me. Yes guys, I am one of THOSE people. Y’know, *whispers* a non-drinker *side glances*. I’m not ill, there is no religious, moral, or health reasons that contribute, I just don’t really drink alcohol. I also don’t dislike or judge anyone who does or doesn’t drink. I don’t really care about all of that. This post is an honest account from someone who doesn’t usually drink. Oh, and It’s probably a long post, so be warned, in advance!

Friday Reads: Ikea

I’ve started a Friday reads post, when I have absolutely no intention of reading this weekend. And that is because my friend Emma has got a job in the North West and is going to be moving into my house. She isn’t actually moving until Tuesday, but there is much that needs doing before she lands. Continue reading “Friday Reads: Ikea”

Cardiff

I’ve visited Sarah a couple of times in her natural surroundings, but we have never had a group trip down to see her, and I haven’t been to see her since her relocation to Cardiff. November was the last time we had a group together, so it was prime time to collect in one place, and as Sarah had the flat to herself, we thought we would make the effort to go and see her. Swansea

A couple of years ago, way before I travelled round the world, a year before I finished my degree, I visited my friend Sarah in Swansea. It was a great weekend, and spurned became affectionately known as ‘Swindon’ and ‘S***, that’s the sea’. It had been too long since I had visited South Wales, and more importantly visited Sarah, so I thought it was about time I tested my new car out and drove down to see her. Continue reading “Swansea”

Disasters and Reunions

My first week back in England has been one full of mixed emotions. I’ve made new friends, and reconnected with old ones; I’ve made appointments and begun the dreaded process of a personal MOT; I’ve had the worst Bout of Books week that I have ever had; and I am struggling a little through the boredom that is the world of unemployment. I touch the future. I teach.

I don’t know whether you have ever looked for a specific quote on the internet, or for a quote about a theme you are interested in, and experienced the shear amount of brilliant, eccentric, and sometimes downright nonsensical waffle that people have come up with over the past [insert generically long time-frame here] years. I’ve had difficulty coming up with a title for this post, and so I decided to look up quotes about teaching, and it reminded me just how many of these sorts of quotes relate to knowledge, learning, education, and therefore teaching. The 140 character TV show review – I blame Emma

When I first moved from County to Pendle college at Lancaster University, it’s safe to say I hated the place. I had next to no friends on campus, and I was fed up with my course. Fast forward a couple of years, I’ve graduated with a BSc Honours degree from Lancaster University in Geography, I’ve made some awesome friends, and I am travelling the world (with one of them, although I think that is going to be the first and last time I call you awesome Jade ;P) Continue reading “The 140 character TV show review – I blame Emma”

Back to the Future

Before I left to travel, before I graduated University, before I chose my University course, I was thinking about what I was going to do. What career would I pursue? Where would I consider living? Fairly big life questions all things considered, and to be honest, I ust didn’t want to think about making them yet. So I decided to travel. Continue reading “Back to the Future”

So which is it then….?

A few weeks ago, when I was new to the blogging game and fresh out of University, I posted this: The beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning? I have had a few weeks to think about things, think about niches and alike, and just get used to blogging and life after university, and have 100% decided that it is the end of the beginning!

Everything really does feel like it’s ending, it’s been a summer of the things. I have finished education, which, considering it has been the focal point of much of my life for the past 18 years is a pretty huge thing. I can’t believe I am already a month on from graduation, it seems like yesterday I arrived at Lancaster for the first time, never mind the final time I would leave. I’ve made so many friends over that time, learnt a lot about so much, and grown from a small child to a not so small adult.

I <3 Liverpool

I’m not normally one to randomly write I ❤ …… but I have decided that when it comes to Liverpool, that sums up my feelings well. I realise I start sentences/posts with ”I’m not normally one to…” or ”I don’t usually…” but this really is one of those cases.

”The magic of Liverpool is that it isn’t England” Margaret Simey

I have lived in Liverpool since birth. I am 100% a scouser through and through. I often say to people that Liverpool is the greatest city on Earth, and I sort of believed it. It wasn’t like I didn’t believe what I was saying, but I really took all the great things about the city for granted. Having friends up this weekend has reaffirmed my love undoubtedly, and even though we just aimlessly walked round the city, it is mightily impressive.
