Strictly Saturdays | Week Thirteen/The Final

THE FINAL. Everyone this is not a drill and I did just say that, it is the final dance of the series. I bloody love this show and I love the final so much. I mean, who doesn’t love the best dancers doing the best dances of the series and then throwing in a no rules show dance to top everything off. I mean it’s always hard to say goodbye to the show each year, but it is always such a great nice. Lots of pros, lots of dances, lots of old celebrities coming back, and a sneaky special music guest (even if she isn’t my favourite, she be a big star!) What a night we have in store.

Strictly Saturdays is a weekly review of Strictly Come Dancing. Expect biased reviews, uneducated dancing critique, and sass.

As much as I love Chris, and I really do love him because he was most definitely my favourite of the year, these three are the three that deserved to be in the final off the last couple of weeks. I am not sure he would have coped with 3 dances in one week! These three will all be dancing a judge’s pick, a favourite dance, and a no rules show dance, and I am hoping we’ll get to see some of my favourites from the year. We get lots of pro dances too, and all the old cast will be back again. I mean, I am not sure we’re all happy James and Annika are back, but it should be a laugh. (In a side note, sorry for not posting last week, it was a big family do for my uncle’s 70th and that obviously had to take precedent!)

I always forget that we get the extra pro-dance at the beginning of the night to open the final show with a bang. I love the theme of this year’s too, so much white and actual quality dancing, it’s just a shame that Anton looked quite so sleazy and below par in comparison to both Oti and Amy. The three celebs are all great, I think this should be a great night! (click here to watch it now!)

Right let’s just put it out there, Tess has had a sartorial series to forget. I have not loved the sequin and sparkle series outfits at all and I am glad that this year’s series is over in that sense. It’s a shame, because she is stunning. Claudia however had some amazing outfits, and tonight was another one. Yes Claudia! The judges went BIG tonight, and even though Shirley looks like a loo-roll topper and Motsi looks like a stuffed swan, they do both look amazing, as you have done all series ladies!

Let’s dance…

Judges’ Pick

Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden | Quickstep to ‘Mr Pinstripe Suit’  (watch here)

I am really pleased that these are in the final, even if it came at the expense of Chris and Karen. I am a little surprised that they got this dance from the judges because it was so good the first time round, but I’m looking forward to it.

There was an issue at the beginning with the tape that they covered flawlessly and it took off spectacularly from there. It was so quick and on point and I absolutely loved it, that is one hell of a dance!

Craig: 10 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 40

Liz: 10 | 10 Emma: 10 | 10

Emma Barton and Anton du Beke | Charleston to ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ (watch here)

Again, I am a little surprised that this is the dance chosen given it was really recent and it was not a low scoring dance. I feel like this will be a bit of an advantage for them.

It was good, don’t get me wrong, but it felt a little more laboured and slow than last time round and if I am honest, not as good. I could have sworn Anton went wrong, and that he wasn’t quite able to keep up with her energy.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 9 | 7 Emma: 9 | 7

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse | Rumba to ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ (watch here)

I know they liked this dance but I always think rumbas are boring and slow and uninspiring and I think it’s an unusual and negative choice from the judges, BUT I hope they smash it and that it is great.

It made me feel uncomfortable which is usually a good sign the judges will like a rumba. They looked amazing and I think it looked like it was really good, but I won’t rush to re-watch it.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 10 | 9 Emma: 10 | 9

Showdance

Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden | Showdance to ‘A Million Dreams’ (watch here)

I mean I know these are great and awesome and stuff, but, I just don’t love contemporary dances so this worries me a little bit. And no….bare feet, that is never a great sign for us loving it, great message or not.

No shoes, and quite frenetic, but I think technically it was probably really good. It has lots of tricks and flicks and theatrical moments and lots going on it just wasn’t quite my cup of tea.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 10 | 6 Emma: 10 | 8

Emma Barton and Anton du Beke | Showdance to ‘Let Yourself Go’ (watch here)

Props? I mean what can go wrong? This should be right up their street though to do old school ballroom Hollywood glamour. I hope they do well, as much as I don’t love them, I want them to nail this because them doing such a dance should be their moment.

Oh no, guys no. It wasn’t;t quite right. There was definitely a timing/synchronisation issue at the beginning on the podium and it was a bit hesitant and not quite right in places which is such a shame.

Craig: 8 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 38

Liz: 8 | 5 Emma: 8 | 8

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse | Showdance to ‘Shout’ (watch here)

I love this song, and it is quick so this is going to be jam packed and pedal to the metal. I love how nice they are, they were so cute with Claudia and Tess too. I really hope this goes well for them.

THAT. WAS. INSANE. It was so full on. It was like a highlights reel of all his best moments and was flawlessly put together. It was so full on and pushing the limits and it worked so well. WOW.

Craig: 10 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 40

Liz: 10 | 10 Emma: 10 | 10

Couple’s Favourite

Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden | Jive to ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’ (watch here)

He is so lovely and sweet and his energy is insane. I think they were such a perfect partnership, and she really got him and what he was about. She is so stunning and lovely, they really deserved to be both together and here in the final. This was a hella dance, I am so pleased we get to see it again.

Again, that was one of the best dances I have ever seen and probably will ever see on Strictly. It was just so on it, so special, so full of character, and even though I really do think I JUST want Kelvin to win, I wouldn’t be disappointed it these were crowned.

Craig: 10 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 40

Liz: 10 | 10 Emma: 10 | 10

Emma Barton and Anton du Beke | Viennese Waltz to ‘Send In The Clowns’ (watch here)

I realise this probably sounds harsh, but I don’t feel it, or feel like it’s as genuine with her. I am sure it is, but I don’t feel their connection or a connection with them in the same way I do with the others. I really hope they get their 10 from Craig though.

That was definitely their best dance of the night, which is a nice place for them to end on. I thought it was a little wide-eyed and didn’t really feel the emotion, but it was floaty and elegant and suited them down to the ground.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 10 | 8 Emma: 9 | 9

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse | Samba to ‘La Vida Es Un Carnival’  (watch here)

I don’t even remember this dance, it was done all the way back in week one, and I love that they’re going back to the beginning. I love these so much, they are so funny and honest and genuine and you can really feel how much it means to them. I like that the smiles and happiness, it sums them up so much.

You can see how much he has improved, such a genius choice. It was a party, it was fun, it was a samba that I enjoyed and that says something as I usually don’t like them. Such a brave choice to do a samba when everyone has gone this year on one (or it feels like it anyway) and it’s a hard dance. These are my favourites.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 10 | 10 Emma: 10 | 10

Judges Favourite – Karim and Amy

Liz’s Favourite | Emma’s Favourite – Kelvin and Oti

I have to say that even though I thought most of the judges were a little trigger happy with the 10 paddles, it was an amazing night and a show to remember. The couples all performed well and there was a real blend of dance styles and contents and I thought it was great. It really was a finale to end what has been a fun series. I loved seeing all the celebs back and cheering everyone on in Claudia’s corner, and I thought no-one let themselves down which is ultimately what the show is all about.

I may not love Taylor Swift, but my gosh she is a big scoop for the final show because she really is a megastar. She played a slower gentler new song ‘Lover’ (which I do know because my housemate Emma is a huge fan and plays her regularly) and even though I don’t love the song, it was a good performance, she looked sensational, and the dancers were great. A shoutout really has to go to Janette and Aljaz who dance as one, there really is no partnership like it. It was a breathtaking performance (and not just because his and Graziano’s pants were so tight!). You can watch her performance here.

I think I had forgotten just how bad James Cracknell was at dancing. How is he so bad at even walking?! I thought it was a fun celebrity run-down dance though, everyone looked like they were loving it, and I think Gorka has a bit too much fun in the back ground. It was nice revisiting some of the best moments of the series, and really made you realise that Dev went too early and that Chris could dance a lot better than he was given credit for. Loved it! I bloody loved Motsi this year too, she was such a breath of fresh air and I am glad they got her in! Catch it here!

I could have done without so many promos and montages, but I guess they have to fill the time somehow. And at long last:

THE WINNER IS…..KELVIN AND OTI!
