Strictly Saturdays | Week Nine @ The Blackpool Tower

Strictly has gone back to Blackpool and everyone is excited about that fact. It’s always a good and lively week and this year has been no different. I really enjoyed the lead up on social media and have loved it a lot. I follow so many people this year that I love watching and it has been properly fun.

Strictly Saturdays is a weekly review of Strictly Come Dancing. Expect biased reviews, uneducated dancing critique, and sass.

I just love that Blackpool opens with another pro dance, and that they get the celebs involved as they can usually hold their own and dance with each other at this point. It was a really full on routine as well, they did not hold back. At points it looked a bit messy but it might just have been that they were a bit full on without the camera angles to show the best bits. Quite the spectacle though, you can see it here.

I was never the biggest fan of Mike and Katya, or a hater I might add, but it was their time to go last week and I am glad my favourites made it through to this week. I feel like the audience stops voting for the shitters at this point and that it starts to be about pure dancing than just being a little bit entertaining. I am kinda glad at this point too because it’s all about wanting to get as far as you can now and less about the whole making it to Blackpool thing.

I always prefer the intros at Elstree because they have the stairs to walk down, but it is fun to see the reaction of everyone when they walk inside. I get that Tess’s dress was meant to do it but I don’t love the look where the sleeve just dangles and looks as though it has fallen off the shoulder. I really feel like her outfits haven’t been on it this year. I didn’t love Claudia’s either, it was like sequined pyjamas, or something out of Mamma Mia. D’you know what, didn’t love Motsi or Shirley’s outfit (although the boys looked really good in their suits). Motsi was so late to the judge call too haha.

Let’s dance…

Chris Ramsay and Karen Hauer | Salsa to ‘Uptown Funk’ (watch here)

I love Chris’s hilarious positive spin on everything, and his faces during the dance off reveal are too funny. I love that he has managed to get to Blackpool, and I’m pleased he is dancing a lively dance to a boss song at Blackpool. I think it is wise to get these opening.

OK so dancing wise it might have been off a little, but entertainment wise that was epic. It was so fun, so much energy and I could feel how much he was enjoying it there. Loved that. I hope all the dances are that fun because it was so, just, happy.

Craig: 7 Motsi: 8 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 Total: 33

Liz: 6 | 9 Emma: 6 | 9

Chris lost his shit when Sooty came out. I love how silly Chris is. And Claudia has absolutely lost it, I love her so much. Oh and Chris has shaken his hand.

Emma Barton and Anton du Beke | American Smooth to ‘Let’s Face The Music And Dance’ (watch here)

I feel like this is a belting dance and a belting tune for a dance in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, and to be honest, dancing a ballroom dance there with Anton would be cool.

I feel like that was a grander dance than she was quite able to do. She always looks like she looks like is always at the edge and not quite in a great way. I also feel like they’re flat, like lacking something in terms of chemistry/relationship, or something. Didn’t do it for me.

Craig: 8 Motsi: 9 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 37

Liz: 8 | 4  Emma: 7 | 6

Alex Scott and Neil Jones | Paso Doble to ‘Run the World (Girls)’ (watch here)

These are just so much better than they were before she went away, she has so much confidence and ability now, and I can tell she is really enjoying it. Beyoncé at Blackpool will hopefully be great, and I do think she could bring through a fierceness. There have been some epic pasos at Blackpool.

Holy shit that was EPIC fierceness and power and I loved it. That was just everything I didn’t know I needed it and I love how much she absolutely loved that, you could see how much that meant to her. She looked stunning, it was big, bold, beautiful, YES.

Craig: 8 Motsi: 8 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 Total: 34

Liz: 8 | 10  Emma: 8 | 10

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse | Jive to ‘Jailhouse Rock’ (watch here)

The energy and the bounce from that floor should give them a huge advantage here, I think they will be a great pairing to have a loud and lively dance. Awww his Nan will be there with his Mum. Oh that’s cute though that he walked in with her. His Nan is so up for it haha.

OK that was a seriously good dance. It was rock and roll, and it definitely had bounce and retraction in abundance. The jeans were a bit ridiculously tight but I am not going to complain. That was a good dance.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Liz: 9 | 9  Emma: 9 | 9

Saffron Barker and A J Pritchard | Quickstep to ‘Marvellous Party’ (watch here)

These are young and full of energy, and they have such a huge bouncy floor and are so good in the ballroom that I have really really high hopes for this dance. I can’t argue with wanting the feathers either Saf.

That was full on and full of pizazz. It was really amazing and just full of personality and I thought they danced it really well. I loved the feel and the look and thought it fit with them and the venue really well. She really didn’t hold back.

Craig: 8 Motsi: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 Total: 35

Liz: 8 | 8  Emma: 8 | 9

Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice | Couple’s Choice Street/Commerical to ‘Vogue’ (watch here)

I mean I didn’t know this meant so much to her but I really hope this is great now. I like seeing a different softer side to her, it’s nice. Oh my gosh Michelle in a Blackpool drag bar is everything. I want this to be huge for her. These are so well paired, I love that she has him.

I mean she looked amazing, he looked, well, I don’t know what he looks like, it was super entertaining, but I am not sure about how much dancing there actually was. It was super sharp and on time, but I didn’t think there was that much dancing. It was absolutely on point for styling throughout.

Craig: 8 Motsi: 8 Shirley: 8 Bruno: 8 Total: 32

Liz: 7 | 9  Emma: 8 | 10

Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden | Charleston to ‘Happy’ (watch here)

Awww I forgot his little mistake and his upset little face, I am so pleased they made it. I think they have more than enough energy to dance a massive dance full of moves to close the show. I thought that was the most pointless VT segment, but the opening was just hilarious.

Wow, energy, incredible in sync dance moves, clean, precise. I thought that was really brilliant and that there couldn’t have been a more impressive dance to close the show in the ballroom. I am so pleased for them both.

Craig: 9 Motsi: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 39

Judges Favourite | Liz’s Favourite | Emma’s Favourite – Karim and Amy’s Charleston

Well that was a good show eh. I feel like the scores were high, the dances were great and befitting the Blackpool spectacle, and all in all it was a stellar night. Anton got his first 10s, I thought there was going to be a 40 but Craig let us down, and my favourites were great. There were a few dances I would watch again from the show which is always a good thing. Until tomorrow night….

…keep dancing!
