Fat Friday: Week 2

Hello friends! Can you believe it has already been a whole week back on the dieting wagon? No, me either! I am not sure if it is a good or a bad thing that it has taken no time for a week to pass, but it has and we’re here and the diet is still around and I think even here to stay! It isn’t easy, but it isn’t terrifying, and I really feel like I can do it.

Fat Friday is a weekly blog post tracking my weight loss and fitness journey, used to keep myself accountable, keep a record of my progress, and share hints & tips that have helped me. To track my progress, or read my previous entries, click here.

Last week I let you all know I was back on the diet train. I am trying a new programme that I am tailoring as I go along and yeah, we’re a week in already. Eating for just 8hrs a day is good for me. I can’t snack as much, I eat less because I am effectively cutting out a meal and I am making sure that everything I do eat is healthy and filling enough to keep me going until the next time I can eat. I haven’t braved working out yet I am not sure how to make sure I have the energy to do it healthily and maintain normal life when I have eaten for less time per day, but we’re only in week 1, right?

At the weekend, my friend and housemate Emma and I took to town to have a little wander around and get some reviews written. We have taken to spending a little time in a corner spot in the city centre’s Pret, where the coffee is good and cheap, there is free water and free WiFi, and no-one distracts us from sitting with our laptops for a couple of hours and getting some blogging done. I think it’s something that is really working for the both of us! It was probably one of the bigger tests I’ve had so far, it was a bit of a challenge to resist the amazing breakfast pastries and goodies they have there, but I stuck to the coffee and water and made it through to 1pm which left me my whole day to eat what I wanted if I wanted to.

Saturday evening was also the summer cosy reading night 2019. I have often missed these reading nights and was relieved that one finally fell on a day when I was off work and reading for a purpose. Emma and I put together an impressive platter and after a week of doing well I really felt like I deserved it. It was a great night all round, I read and finished some good books/graphic novels, and enjoyed the food within the constraints of the diet itself.

We also attended an evening event at our local Waterstones. I have to confess that I attended when I haven’t read anything by S.A. Chakraborty but I am excited about reading her books and exploring the richly Arabic/Persian fantasy she has written about. She has lived a fascinating life and is fiercely and passionately intelligent when it comes to her field of study and faith so it was a great evening topped off by getting signed copies of her books. The short stop at Wagamama’s for dinner before we went really made for a cracking Wednesday.

Outside of this I have plowed into work and routine in the hopes of finding my footing with the 16:8/intermittent fasting diet, It worked well with my activities outside work, but I was concerned about my shift pattern and how conducive the diet would be. I do a lot of shift work, mainly 6-2 shifts, which means I am up at 430am a lot of days. It makes getting through to 1130am/12noon a little harder. I have already realised that I prefer to wait as long as I can, usually until lunch time, and then begin eating so I can have a decent meal around 730/8pm. It took a couple fo days to get used to, but I think I can make it work, especially when I have a coffee or 3. I feel like it could be sustainable.

WEIGHT: This week: -7lbs Total: -7lbs

EXERCISE: 0 Sessions

MOOD: Optmistic

RECIPE/FOOD/SNACK of the week: Roast veg and bulgar wheat

HINTS/TIPS of the week: Why not today?

I can’t lie to you folks, this weight loss can actually count for the 10 day period I started, but it is nice to see a good loss in the first week. It really kicks things off and makes you realise it is possible. I think getting through a 3day bank holiday weekend and another week of 6-2’s will be challenging, but if I can make it through this I feel like I will be there. Once I manage to introduce fitness we will be onto a winner. Until next week.
