July | Wrap Up

Guys, I have fought the slump hard this year but in July there were times where the slump was too much to take and I succumbed. I am using this excuse for this abysmally late wrap! You’ll probably find it hard to believe when you see my reading stats below, but I really struggled through this month, and if it wasn’t for The Reading Rush in the last week of the month, I would have fallen down a reading slump hole that would have been difficult to escape. I know that it was a mixture of things, tiredness in the heat, coming off a holiday and going away the week after, Dad’s 60th birthday and the celebrations that go with it, and participating in a readathon that wasn’t conducive to me reading a lot (The Book Junkie Trials), but its been a difficult reading month that I am glad to see the back of (in a reading sense only, the memories have been awesome!).

In July, I read 12 books, which is 3,083 pages, and all of which were new reads to me.

I read 3 non-fiction and 9 fiction books, a mix of fantasy, memoir, feminsim, race, paranormal, science fiction, thriller and contemporary romance.

By Format, I read 5 Audiobooks, 1 ebook, 3 Comic/Graphic Novels and 3 paperbacks.

The average rating was 4.3/5 Stars for all of the books that I read in July.

I’ve read some great books this month, but the ‘Book of the Month’ for July is…

Not F*cking Ready to Adult by Iain Stirling

I mean, it still looks as though I read a lot, and I guess I did, it was just tinged with difficulty when it came to actually reading things. I ended up DNFing two books – Rebel in the Sands was something that I wasn’t enjoying and should have put down a while ago, but Ghost was something I was loving and only DNF-ed because I had to put it down to participate in readathons that didn’t let me include it. I’m a bit gutted and resentful about this but decided DNFing it for now and picking it back up down the line when I can read it and enjoy it in a short space of time was the best thing to do.

August brings weekends with (hopefully) good weather and the prospect of being able to read again for pure enjoyment. N.E.W.Ts readathon is back with some brilliantly varied and exciting prompts, so I’m looking forward to reading hard for these challenges and getting through some ARCs too!

I am ready for a book filled August, are you?

How was your July? What did you read?

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

  1. Book Junkie Trials was one of the first readathons I tried with a more themed reading list and it just didn’t work for me. But July… Pft. How does anyone get anything done in July? Well done getting 12 books read!

    1. July was full on. Audiobooks and comics made it look better than it was
I like a themed reading list to a degree, the problem with Book Junkie trials was that it also stopped swapping books AND reading out of order which is so restrictive. There just wasn’t enough flexibility or options, especially if you dont like what you’re reading!
