Greetings from Russia! Yes, I am on my holiday, but I have my laptop and bookish brain with me and I am signing up to an awesome sounding readathon from here in rainy/cold Moscow. The Book Junkie trials is hosted by the wonderful Rachael Marie Book Junkie who posted a sign up video here and has posted all about the readathon her twitter @TheBookieTrials. It is a month long readathon/competitive reading event starting on July 1st for the whole of the bookish community, and I for one am excited to be taking part!
Rules
OK, this is a pretty easy one, but if you want the official lowdown then please watch Rachael’s announcement video or twitter thread linked above (here is a handy link to the google drive too!!). To take part, you first decide if you’re on the quest for the bookie grail (readathon), competing in the trials (competitive event) or both! I am 100% taking part in the readathon, and have loosely signed up for the challenges/event too but know it will be harder as a non-booktuber and someone who is away from their books for periods throughout the month. Once you have looked into it and decided, you take a quiz/sign up that assigns you a team : The Outlaws, The Scribes, The Bards, and the greatest team/my team, The Magi! The team you are assigned are the guys you’re earning points with and dictates your challenges, map assignment, and strengths/weaknesses. In addition, it is essential you declare your TBR ahead of your team start date and then stick to it! For each of the team’s prompts, you score 10 points, and each subsequent challenge you finish is worth 1 point! Everyone is aiming to win as many points as possible, enjoy reading with team mates, and finish the group book/bookie grail which is Stardust by Neil Gaiman.
The Magi
Woohoo, The Magi aka the best team and my team!! Led by Becca, the Marquess of the Magi (who can be found here on Youtube and here on Twitter), we are practitioners of magic, with the ability to attain objectives or acquire knowledge or wisdom using supernatural means. We’re tricky folk with the ability to bend time which means we can start the readathon early on 28th July – today!! Unfortunately, in the lead up to the readathon, a spell went awry which means we’re reading a book outside our comfort zone too!
TBR
Now, this wouldn’t be a readathon without Liz setting potentially unrealistic goals, so, naturally I would love to complete all 17 prompts. First things first though, I need to declare a TBR for my team’s challenges. I have selected Glimmer to be my “outside of my comfort zone” read as I read very little YA contemporary!
Orc Grove – Twisted Steve Cavanagh
Ol’ Pirate Cove – Sea Witch Sarah Henning
Glimmer – The Paper and Hearts Society Lucy Powrie
Draconic Isle – The Lost Plot Genevieve Cogman
The Bookie Grail – Stardust Neil Gaiman
Are you taking part in the Book Junkie Trials?
Which team are you in? What will you be reading?
I’m also participating and I’m Team Mage as well!!! I’m super excited it will be a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy all your readings! 💛✨💪🏻

I’m also a mage! The challenges were a lot of fun to pick books for. I read Stardust a long time ago, but I’m curious to see what people think of it.

Yay! Another mage woo! Yeah they were really fun. I’ve read Stardust before but was debating a reread soon so it’s fallen well 😁
