2019 is around the corner, and in this awesome reading community, I think we all know that a new year signals a new round of Bout of Books! The readathon is entering it’s 24th edition (I mean, wow guys!), and if I am honest, I can’t believe that this will be my 13th time participating in such a great event. There is no better way to kick off a new reading year, to start new reading challenges, and to pick up all of those books you didn’t finish in 2018 than with a week long readathon, so why don’t you join us!
Bout of Books is a great online readathon, and community, and for the first week in January we’re picking up our books (whatever books you want to read) and reading them at your own pace (I mean it, whether you read a book a day, or a page a week), we’re chatting on twitter, and we’re having a laugh. C’mon, join us, you know you want to!
So, what’s the deal? What’s it all about? Well:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.

Once again, I have the honour and privilege of being a Bout of Books expert. Keep an eye out for me stalking you all on as many forms of social media outlets as I can manage, supporting where I can, and all round getting involved. If you have any questions, please drop me a line on here or find me on twitter @LizHannah25 or instagram @LizWhitehouse25.
Personal Challenges
As always, I set myself some personal goals each readathon, and once again they remain the same as always. I think I have found a good level of engagement with the readathon and the people who take part with these, and if I can complete them then I will be super happy!
- Read/listen to 3 books from 3 different genres.
- Get involved with any/all challenges set daily by the lovely hosts
- Participate in all twitter chats that my work schedule permits, and engage with my fellow Bout of Book-ers!
- Read and comment on other Bout of Books blog posts, and see what others are doing during the week.
- Complete the Instagram challenges
TBR
This time round, I am not actively taking part in any other readathons that require a specific book for a specific challenge, so I am going to read exactly what I fancy. I really would like to get a good start on my TBR, and actually start thinking about the 2019 edition of Around the Year in 52 books so I am not scrambling in the last month to fulfil challenges I’ve not fancied for the rest of the year.
- The Power Naomi Alderman
- The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories Angela Carter
- Shades of Magic: The Steel Prince #3 V E Schwab, Enrica Angiolini, and Andrea Olimpieri
- These Rebel Waves Sara Raasch
- Ghost James Swallow
