Good evening witches and wizards, our favourite readathon is back with another instalment and we are getting ready for the festive season at Hogwarts! Gi of the Book Roast is hosting another instalment of the Magical Readathon that started way back in early 2018 and is back for another go. It’s running from 17th December to 26th December and is a plot your own adventure/challenge kinda deal that sounds pretty damn cool. Gi always put maximum effort into these events, and I can’t wait for it to begin again. If you want more information, check out the announcement video here!

As I mentioned above, there is an element of choosing your challenges and plotting your own path in order to attend the magical feast at the end of the readathon. I am attempting to finish Around the Year in 52 books at the same time so I am conscious that the books need to serve a dual purpose where possible. So, the paths and the prompts, well, I am unsure of the exact route I am taking at the moment so have tried to come up with different books for each so I can plot my way as my mood and challenges take me.

I have been reading this book for months – literally. I know it so well that I can pick it up and put it down and not worry about where I am up to or picking the story up. The illustrated version is insanely awesome, it’s just impractical to carry round and read, so I’m planning on sitting inside and finishing It off.

Fantastic Beasts: Original Screenplay J K Rowling

I have owned this for over a year and I am not sure it’s been off my shelf since I bought it. I didn’t love the Cursed Child script so I am a little worried about this, but it should be a quick and easy read.

Have a snowball fight with the Weasley twins – a book you think will be humorous ⭐

So Close To Being The Sh*t, Y’All Don’t Even Know Retta

Retta is hilarious so it stands to reason that this will be humorous. The fact that the audiobook is narrated by her and is included in my Scribd plan just makes things that much better really.

Visit 3 Broomsticks for muller pixie wine – a read that should only take you a day/evening ⭐

Shades of Magic: Steel Prince #2 V E Schwab, Enrica Angiolini, and Andrea Olimpieri

Is this cheating? It might be but who cares because I can’t wait to dive into the second issue of the Shades of Magic comics. I love this world and I love V so it should be awesome and inevitably a single sitting read.

I received this books months ago and kind of forgot I owned it but it’s something that has come back on my radar and is unlike everything else on my list which means it will be good if I want something a bit different.

I am really trying to clear up my NetGalley and to read and review more of the things I have been granted on there so that I can actually get a good feedback ratio and stand a better chance of being granted for more of the books that I would really like to get in the future. This fitted the challenge well and was the one that I most wanted to read from the outstanding ARC list.

This has technically been on my Currently Reading list for 2 months but tbh I don’t remember the few pages I read and would have to dive in again and restart it. I am not ready to finish this duology and have been preparing myself for this since I finished This Savage Song.

Macbeth Jo Nesbo

I love crime thrillers and this is undoubtedly a piece by a leading writer in the genre. It fits multiple challenges elsewhere and would knock another read from my NetGalley un-read shelf if I could finish it.

Put on your knitted sweater from Molly Weasley – read with present parents or a focus on family

Danny, the Champion of the World Roald Dahl

This is the only Roald Dahl book I own that I haven’t read yet and is about a really strong bond between a father and son so definitely fits the challenge. It also happens to be by one of my favourite authors, a children’s book, and pretty short, all huge advantages when it comes to a readathon.

Animal Farm George Orwell

This has been on my TBR since I first got Goodreads and if I am honest for years before. I fits an Around the Year challenge, it’s short, and I think it is on my classics club list.

The Burning Page Genevieve Cogman

I really enjoyed the first two instalments of The Invisible Library series and have been meaning to read this for ages. It works well in the context of my readathons and they read really quickly so will be easy to get through quickly if I need to.

Attend the Christmas Feast – watch a Harry Potter movie (optional) ⭐

I have the DVD’s and ITV always have them on over the Christmas period, so I will make one at the least and probably all eight if I put my mind to it!

At this hesitant stage, the challenges with a ⭐ next to them are the ones I am likely to complete and the path I am currently planning on taking but anything could change between now and the readathon starting!
