T5W: Great Books To Give Aliens As Gifts

Hello hello you lovely readers, and welcome to Liz goes a bit overboard with this week’s topic idea. This week T5W is all about great books that we’d give ________ as gifts, y’know, Ravenclaws, or Pirates, or something, but I decided I wanted to do a list of 5 books I would add into a care package/gift for aliens who had landed on Earth and had decided they wanted to give a go at reading books. They’re varied, they’re favourites, and I’m pleased I went OTT this week.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone J K Rowling

If aliens were visiting and they had decided that they wanted to read then I would 100% gift a copy of the first Harry Potter book because if they can’t get on board with Harry Potter then we would be able to turn them away before they settled. Harsh, yes, but I definitely think fair.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt Michael Rosen

What’s better than teaching aliens to read and like books, getting them to read a book about kids befriending bears and almost singing the words that are written. I just think it would be an awesome gift.

To Kill a MockingbirdHarper Lee

This is my favourite book so I would really like to be able to gift it to someone who didn’t know the amazement of reading and it’s story. They probably wouldn’t appreciate it as much as me, but I’d want them to read it anyway.

A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens

Lessons on consumerism, check. Lessons on humanity, check. Weird ghosts, check. Simultaneously celebrating and ruining a worldwide holiday, check. I just feel like this would blow the brain of any aliens in one foul swoop and they’d then either get us or just think who are these creeps.

Sapiens Yuval Noah Harari

OK, they would probably need a serious book that actually covers a bit of world history, and this is the most readable and enjoyable book of the type I’ve ever read so I would undoubtedly throw that into the mix. We don’t want them completely clueless now do we?

It was a bit of a short one today! I’d love to hear what you would gift an alien if you met one who had just landed on Earth and wanted to read something!

What books would you gift? What would you avoid/stop them reading?
