Strictly Saturdays (On Sunday): Week 11

Hello hello, how are you all? How was your weekend? I’ve had a jam-packed and really rather lovely weekend that started visited family, ended with watching Liverpool beat their rivals Everton at Anfield, and had a brilliant trip with friends to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio tour in between. And that’s the reason I am blogging a day later than the show aired. I was in Watford when it started and had a 4hr drive home so I am only just watching Week 11. And what a week it is, quarter finals and musicals week!

Sadly Graeme and Oti never made it this far and we said goodbye to them last week. I am quite gutted, I really do like them, but it had to be them or Lauren because they were a level below everyone else. Lauren really needs to up her game this week! I bloody love Musicals week, it’s so extra, we get an additional pro dance, and we tend to get some absolutely awesome dances.

I love the pros, and I really don’t ever want to say that they’re rubbish or disappointing or anything like that, but I have to say that Mamma Mia! themed dance seemed really lacklustre and almost lazy. It’s a miracle that they managed it because it’s such an upbeat and lively music and everyone knows the songs, but it fell a little bit flat. I could have done without seeing Anton’s knees or any of his thighs, and I could also have done with someone else being the romantic interest when it came to the dance. AJ is too young in my head for all of this business, and yeah, I think that they could have done better with that whole thing. I did like the fact that they got the judges involved and that they did all dance a little bit, I was feeling that! You can watch it yourself here.

Tess, Oh Tess, what the heck are you wearing? That is, well, it’s horrific and I say that as someone who likes red. That was not a good choice, you should have gone with what Claudia was wearing, which I didn’t love either but would look much better on you and is right up your street. Shirley and Darcey really have gone all out and both look lovely, they both had unusual arm/hand adornments today! The boys are wearing some jazzy jackets too, they’ve all scrubbed up well this week.

Lauren Steadman and AJ Pritchard American Smooth to ‘I’m In Love With A Wonderful Guy’ from South Pacific (watch here)

I have to be honest when I say I’m not quite sure how she is still here because she has been a big step below the rest of the guys. I’m not saying I don’t want people to vote for them, if they’re your favourites then go for it, I just don’t get how she is getting enough to be above the dance off. I hope I stand corrected at the end of this. I like she has got her Nan involved, good ol’ Doreen.

That was so much better from her. She looks so much more comfortable in hold and in this type of ballroom dance. It was soft and elegant and the acting and romance were there. There were big lifts and epic pivots, yes, I liked that a lot.

Faye Tozer-Smith and Giovanni Pernice Charleston to ‘The Lonely Goatherd’ from The Sound of Music (watch here)

OK, I haven’t seen anything of these yet other than their creepy outfits when they walked down in the intro and the yodelling, but I think I won’t like this. I think its going to be amazing in terms to quality, but I don’t like the musical, or the look.

I am not going to lie to you, that was one of the creepiest dances I have ever seen and I will most definitely not be watching that again. I get that the concept fitted and was brilliantly executed and that the dance was well done, but nope.

Craig: 10 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 40

Charles Venn and Karen Clifton Rumba to ” from West Side Story (watch here)

I just don’t like these and it’s starting to annoy me he is still here. I can’t stand anything about this musical and I despise rumbas, so I think we all know this will not be the highlight of the evening for me.

I just, no. I just can’t even say I thought it was quite good because nope. I hope he is in the dance off. That’s all.

Craig: 8 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 Total: 35

Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev Quickstep to ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ from Funny Girl (watch here)

I bloody love this dance and I really think that this will be special, even if she is already a dancer and has a big advantage. I think it was a bit of a shock for her to be in the dance off last week, but she is a trained dancer and she is American so she is going to be potentially disliked over here for the dance training and her audience and fans will be in the US.

I love a quickstep but there was something weird about it. The frame/arm looked weird and straight and off, and it was so quick. I know it’s supposed to be super quick, that’s the point, but it had no lower points for emphasis and I actually found myself not falling in love with a decently danced quickstep in the first time in, well, forever really.

Craig: 9 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 10 Total: 38

Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton American Smooth to ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Misérables (watch here)

I really like Stacey, she is really lovely and coming to life in this show and I was going off Kevin over the last year and suddenly I am liking him all over again. I actually really quite like this musical now, and it was nice to have the guys from the musical in the VT, even if the song choice is a bit odd, y’know, given the storyline behind it.

That was full of feels and stuff. There were lots of classic Kevin moments of showing off his partner and there were lots of well timed lifts and sway and I really thought that was something special. I have to say as well that they were both looking good, and even though this look is more Emma’s thing, I am really feeling Kev tonight!

Craig: 9 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 Total: 38

Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell Salsa to ‘Joseph Megamix’ from Joseph and his Technicolour (watch here)

I just love that this is going to be so meta Joseph being Jo while being Joseph. We’ve got some Jason Donovan, some cheesy lines, some eye-liner, and a big coat. I love that we’re going to have some Johannes moments too. I think I’ll love this.

OMG I LOVE THIS. I love that this so so flamboyant, and the drop, and the bootyshaking was hysterical. NEIL AND JOHANNES THOUGH. I think I live for them in the background of things now. That was so good we rewinded it and watched it again immediately. I loved the lifts, and those hips, and the armography,

Craig: 8 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 10 Total: 36

1. Faye and Giovanni – 40
2= Stacey and Kevin – 38
2= Ashley and Pasha – 38
4. Joe and Dianne – 36
5= Lauren and AJ – 35
5= Charles and Karen – 35

I thought tonight was everything that Musicals week should be. It was flamboyant and over the top and the dances were good and for the first time in the last few weeks there was no-one that was notably off the pace. My favourites did alright, they should be safe, and the ones I don’t care too much for are at the bottom. I am kind of hoping that this week is the week that finally sees Charles leave. Harsh, but true.

Just like last week, when blogging the results show has already aired so I don’t think it really counts as a spoiler. The opening number was a little confusing. The dance itself was quite good, but I didn’t get what it was supposed to be from or even the whole thing as a piece but it was extravagant and I guess that is the whole point of the show, right? Tess and Claudia have had they quick change, and even though I still don’t love what either of them are wearing, they both look better than they did on the live show.

Can we all just stop a second to appreciate Adam Lambert’s ridiculously tight and extravagant pants. I used to really quite dislike him but he has come into his own since he became the front man for Queen. He has an incredible voice and even though he overdoes it sometimes he is a greta person to do that song. And the dance with it, Neil and Katya did an amazing job, and it was lovely to see him take centre stage and smile and do it with her. Bloody loved it. Click here to watch now.

I think the dance off was particularly unsurprising. He was bottom of the leader board so it was about time we saw Charles and Karen go. I’m not surprised it was against Ashley and Pasha, because as good as they are, they’re not the ones you’re probably going to go out and vote for. It’s the semi finals next week, they’re all doing two dances and it’s going to be all about getting into the final. I can’t wait, so until then….

…..keep dancing!
