Evening all and welcome back to another sparkly Strictly Saturday. This week’s instalment is coming somewhat delayed thanks to a delightful birthday celebration meal for my Gran who celebrated being 82 years young yesterday!! We went for pizza and I have to say that the new pizza place that has opened is really good. So, full of food, we’re settling in a little late but spoiler free for some good ol’ dancing fun.
I really like what the male judges are wearing this weekend. I’m a pretty big fan of burgundy, and the flowers on Bruno’s jacket are pretty cool. They are definitely dressed better than the women. Shirley is exposing a huge amount of chest and even though she is not actually exposing anything, it is making me uncomfortable. Not quite as uncomfortable as seeing Darcey’s knickers, but y’know. Let’s just get on with it shall we:
Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton Cha Cha to (watch here)
I think I would quite like to see Kevin actually travel with Stacey on one of her documentaries. I’m not sure how he would do. I feel like they’ve got that much energy.
I thought that was quite good. She probably wasted a lot of energy singing along to the whole song, but she was pretty good. There was a section in the middle that wasn’t as great and it was a little bit inconsistent, but I really quite liked it.
Craig: 4 Darcey: 5 Shirley: 5 Bruno: 6 Total: 20
Charles Venn and Karen Clifton Quickstep to Sir Duke (watch here)
No matter how much of him I see, I’m just not going to shake the feeling of leering creep. It may be harsh and judgey but that’s the way I feel. He’s probably going to be
That was out of time at bits, but I couldn’t tell who it was. There was definitely bits that were too slow, and when he went a bit quicker it looked a bit skippy. There was sections where I didn’t really think he was actually dancing enough and his head wobbles a lot.
Craig: 5 Darcey: 6 Shirley: 6 Bruno: 7 Total: 25
Katie Piper and Gorka Marquez Paso Doble to Confident (watch here)
I have high hopes for this dance because Gorka is Spanish so there’s that, but also there is a place for her to channel her nerves and a character to make strong and aggressive.
You can feel how much is she is IN this moment. Ok it was stompy whilst being a little bouncy and soft, but I could feel the power and the oomph. Gorka though, seriously it’s indecent.
Craig: 2 Darcey: 4 Shirley: 3 Bruno: 4 Total: 13
Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse American Smooth to Try a Little Tenderness (watch here)
Oh this could be very very good. I feel like he could be good, and I like the American Smooth could be very good but also could go wrong.
There was something not right about his frame. I don’t know what it was, it seemed it was a bit wide, but not right. I didn’t mind the jazzy feel though, thought it suited him. Oti though, dang, and also, I feel like I can see too much of
Craig: 3 Darcey: 5 Shirley: 3 Bruno: 4 Total: 15
Kate Silverton and Aljaz Skorjanec Tango to No Roots (watch here)
I am a little concerned that she may crumble this week. Let’s hope that ballroom is going to be her bag and that this is good, eek.
She has got severe fave down. I like the slow and the quick, and the drama. Wow the drama. That we spectacularly timed and it seemed quite complicated. Shirley is on her feet. What a transformation, that was entertaining, I was hooked.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 Total: 27
Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell Charleston to Cotton Eye Joe (watch here)
I think Joe was the surprise of last week and now as I have decided I like him, I have high hopes. This should really suit him! Also, Joe Sugg thatched roofs? Sorry what now?
That was full of energy and really good. It was really good and had high octane lifts and I really enjoyed that. He has a knack for this and is adorable. I did notice that he only really swivels with one foot, bless him.
Craig: 7 Darcey: 8 Shirley: 8 Bruno: 8 Total: 31
Susannah Constantine and Anton du Beke Foxtrot to They Can’t Take That Away (watch here)
Last week was bloody memorable and is one of those dances we’ll never forget. This has got to be better, right? Anton is the King of the ballroom so surely even he can make a decent ballroom dancer of her.
It started not too badly but just seemed to get worse. There was a couple of mistakes but it was just clunky and it didn’t look right and it just wasn’t very good. She clearly can’t retain the info long enough.
Craig: 1 Darcey: 4 Shirley: 4 Bruno: 3 Total: 12
Lee Ryan and Nadiya Bychkova Jive to Blue Suede Shoes (watch here)
What is on his hands and wrist in this promo? Its look stupid and ridiculous. I love how his face fell when he heard jive, he knows how hard this will be. He has a lot of energy, I’m sure he will be fine, but he looked exhausted.
I would have really liked that if it was someone else. Don’t get me wrong, it was full of energy and moves and it felt Elvis-y, but I just didn’t love it because it was him. There was great retraction and stuff, but it tired a little at the end (understandably tbf). I did like that the Elvis bits didn’t impact the dance quality.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 6 Bruno: 7 Total: 26
Danny John Jules and Amy Dowden Cha Cha to Beggin (watch here)
Amy is full on, I think it can grow to find her alright by the end. It just takes a bit of time to tune in to her. I think these are going to be dark horses, I think these will be good. He is so smooth, smooth and not creepy, take notes Charles.
He can spin. He can move. He can do something with his free hand. He can move those feet and move them fast. It was really sharp and clean and I just thought it was really good. They look good together. That was full on.
Craig: 7 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 Total: 28
Vick Hope and Graziano De Prima Waltz to Somewhere (watch here)
That was funny, Tess lost it completely. Oh Tess.
Oh that is just what I needed, Graziano is good with children. I love her family, classic celeb Mum behaviour there, attractive dancer shows her how to dance. This will be way better it think.
That was really beautiful and soft. That was a huge improvement on last week. That was so simple and classical and I thought it was really nice and sweet. That was much more her, I didn’t peg her as a ballroom girl but it would seem she definitely is!
Craig: 7 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 6 Bruno: 7 Total: 27
Dr. Ranj Singh and Janette Manrara Salsa to Fireball (watch here)
The doctor has a vibrating arse, is that normal? Janette is a Duracell bunny, she just keeps going and going and is adorable. You can feel her Latina routes in this promo vid here, and they’re lifting. Oooooo.
Oh no her dress. That was so impressive, what a pro. He loved that so much, you could tell on his face. I’m not sure there was actually a lot of basic salsa but that song and dance was perfect for them!
Craig: 5 Darcey: 6 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 6 Total: 24
Faye Tozer Smith and Giovanni Pernice Viennese Waltz to It’s a Man’s World (watch here)
Awww Giovanni that’s actually adorable that you’re teaching him how to dance with his Mum. She is tall and elegant that this could be good, but also it’s a lot of spinning early on so maybe not. She is breathtakingly beautiful.
That was so dramatic and I am here for it. Absolutely loved that, definitely my favourite dance so far this year. She is really stunning, she is going to go far in this competition. And there was a cheeky fleckerl to finish, well done Faye. Ooooo we have a judge battle, some fighting there, a proper row.
Craig: 8 Darcey: 8 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 8 Total: 31
Lauren Steadman and AJ Pritchard Charleston to New Rules (watch here)
I feel like a triathlete should have the energy and fitness to do this dance and what not but I’m not lying, I’m concerned about their lifts. So many of the lifts need two hands, so I hope they’ve naturally adapted it and not forced it.
I’m actually really impressed with how well she coped with the balancing and the constant correcting posture. The lifts were really good and committed. I didn’t feel it had the attack or the swivel, it wasn’t super sharp, but it was never going to be her dance.
Craig: 5 Darcey: 6 Shirley: 5 Bruno: 6 Total: 22
Seann Walsh and Katya Jones Jive to I’m Still Standing (watch here)
Oooo this is a really big song and classic strictly dance that he is trying to do here. The Jill jive is one of the most famous Strictly dances. I love that Romesh is there and I just love them together.
I just love him so much. He is having the best time and I just think he is awesome. Those pants are sparkly and even though he slaps his feet a lot and the ending wasn’t brilliant. I didn’t think he was as off time as they did, and I’m pleased he seems to take it well and giggle his way through it.
Craig: 2 Darcey: 4 Shirley: 4 Bruno: 5 Total: 15
Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev Cha Cha to Boogie Wonderland (watch here)
I feel like I’m going to end up liking her if they are always going to be bringing her Mum into this. I know it is not her fault she’s in this as a dancer but I just think this is going to be readlly good and I will probably judge her for that.
Yeahhhhh that was good. I know she is always going to have the confidence to go up there and perform because that was her job, but that was still seriously good.

Phew that was another long show. Just like last week it seemed to go on forever, so it’s probably time to start cutting the crop down. I’m not going to lie to you, there are a couple of couples this year that I am just not into at all, so I will be more than happy to sacrifice Susannah, Lee, or Charles for the good of shortening the show and having no moments where I am happy to slip out and make a cup of tea.
I feel like the dancing quality stepped up a gear this week and that there is a bigger gulf between the best and the rest. Faye’s Viennese Waltz was the stand out dance for me, the beauty and the grace and the drama was really great and she is stunning. I loved it. The surprise packet still remains Joe, I thought I’d hate him and I actually quite like him and I thought he would be rubbish when he has actually been quite good.
Well, it’s all going to be about tomorrow night, the dreaded first Results Show. I’m gutted i missed the vote tonight, so if Seann or Graeme go, I will be devastated, but I’m looking forward to the drama and the dudun dudun music. I wonder who is performing? Tune in tomorrow night, until then….
I can’t believe that we’re already saying goodbye to one of the contestants. They’ve only just been paired, I feel like we barely know them. I didn’t get a chance to vote this week and know that if my favourite goes I am going to be really gutted so I am hoping that it’s a pair I don’t like that is sent packing this week.
As always, the results show has been opened by the professionals and the dance is a little odd. The incredible kind of odd, but odd none the less! I really like the look and the feel of the dance, and really like how the male dancers are dancing together and the female pros are dancing with one another. It looks really spectacular, and it’s nice to see Strictly embracing all different types of dancing and partnerships. I know we’re probably not going to see this filter into the pairings and to be honest I’m not sure we should see that, but this dance was really something. If you want to watch, click here.
D’you who I really didn’t think I would ever see perform on Strictly, and whose music seems really difficult to create a dance for? George Ezra! That said, he was pretty awesome and I think we all felt that whole ‘this voice shouldn’t come from this face’ vibe all over again, right? Dianne Buswell and Kevin Clifton did a fun dance to the music, and everyone looked like they were having a good time. That’s what it’s all about!
I don’t think we could wait any longer for the dance-off announcements, and to be honest, it was pretty good for me. I really don’t like Lee Ryan or Susannah Constantine, so neither would be missed in this household. Both did up their game a little bit, but I think we all knew what was going to happen as soon as they were revealed to be int he dance off. The judges unanimously voted in favour of Lee, and it was the right decision as he was much better than Susannah. For once Anton’s ‘charm’ didn’t save him and he was first to leave, and the worst dancer in the competition went out in the first dance off.
Onwards and forwards into Week 3 – Movie Week. I can’t wait to see what magical creations the pro dancers have come up with for their partners, and the sneak peak of the pros Harry Potter themed dance is making me excited!
See you next week!
