Fall Book Tag

Can you feel that? It’s the first real cold morning of this year’s Fall. The temperature dropped below 10 degrees into real get your boots on and coats out of the cupboard levels, and my breath could actually be seen in my car. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are firmly on the menu, Halloween is creeping into the shops, as are the lovely sight of jumpers and boots, and going to the football is soon going to become a lesson in how many layers you can wear and retain the ability to walk easily and sit down painlessly. The leaves are even turning the lovely shades of orange and red that signals Autumn is well and truly here!

Autumn, as we Brits say, is my favourite season. I like the residual warmth mixed with winter wardrobes. I like the football as it starts to go dark. I like PSL’s and hot chocolates and reading under a blanket with a candle nearby. I love sliding my double socked feet into big boots and wrapping up in an over sized woollen cardigan, and I adore the colours that come about this time of year. So, in honour of this awesome time, I have enjoyed Emma’s Fall Tag so much that I thought I would give it a go, thanks for creating Bionic Book Worm

Crisp Fall Air – A Book That Felt Fresh and New

I read a book last year that was called You Don’t Know Me by lawyer and novelist Imran Mahmood. It was set from the point of view of someone attending a trial at court and took place in real time. It was as though I was listening to the testimony of the accused like you would in court and drawing my own conclusions. It was really unique and felt different to anything I had read before, or anything I have since.

Howling Winds – An Ending That Blew You Away

There are so many books that have endings that are predictable, and nearly as many that have endings that are unpredictable, but the book with the ending that really made me think whhaaaaaat?! was The Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. The murder mystery takes place on the Orient Express train and unfolds as many murder mysteries do with quite the ending. I won’t spoil it, but for those who’ve read it – how good was it, am I right? For those who haven’t read it – it’s not a long book and a great read!

Comfy Sweaters – A Book That Gave You the Warm and Fuzzy’s

As much as I am tempted to say something like Harry Potter given how many times I have read them, I am swaying to say something by Roald Dahl. I absolutely adore reading The BFG and firmly rank it as one of my favourite books. There is something wonderfully innocent and genuine about the unexpected friendship, the exciting adventures, and noble intentions that emerge throughout the story and I always feel better for reading it.

Bright Colors – A Cover with Either Red, Orange, or Yellow

I have some seriously pretty books that feature yellow, orange, and red on the covers and the spines. I love my Harry Potter house editions that feature rich red covers, and love the original covers that are a delightful hopscotch of fall colours. Recently, I received a stunning ARC of Boneless Mercies that has a gorgeous orange/bronze foiling detail on the cover and on the spine that is insanely pretty.

Leaf Fight – A Book with Non Stop Action

Ok, so, I really like fantasy and I really like thrillers, and both of those genres can be quite full of action. I don’t really know if I have a particular favourite that is full of non-stop action, but there is a great novelist called James Swallow and another called James Twining. They both write high-octance thrillers (very different from one another) that are full of richly written action!

Pumpkin Spice – Your Most Anticipated Read

I am so super excited about Vengeful by V E Schwab coming out that I pre-ordered it months ago, and then when I found out that Illumicrate had a celebratory Magic and Mayhem V themed box coming out for the release, I quickly cancelled the pre-order and ordered it. I haven’t been this excited about a book release or anticipated a book coming out like this since Harry Potter. Thankfully the book comes out tomorrow and I have already been sent my tracking info for my crate so I know it’s on its way. I can’t wait!!

Aaaaaaaaand that’s it. I have my water bottle and blankets ready for the fall and I am eagerly awaiting reading curled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and a burning candle. Sounds like bliss, right?
