Bout of Books 23: Day 1 and 2

Good evening everybody! How are you all, how are you all getting on with Bout of Books so far? I didn’t manage to post yesterday after a computing disaster, but the good news is my laptop is back to sort of behaving, so I’ve been able to catch up a little bit! What are you reading? Did you take part in the twitter chat? Sadly it fell at 2am for me, which is too late to do and still get up for work. There will be another one at the weekend if you missed out! Don’t forget, you can still sign up, so make sure you’ve added your link here.

I’m also a Bout of Books expert, here to help the lovely ladies at Bout of Books with all your readathon related enquiries, and to offer all round support and help for the readathon! So please, comment on my updates, and tweet me here!

Now, normally I would launch straight into my updates and what not, but because this is covering 2 days, it’s going to be a little longer and split into 2 sections. I hope you stick with me!
Day 1

09:30am: I am not in work until 2pm, I got up earlyish with the sole purpose of reading and blogging. My laptop doesn’t switch on and charge at the same time, so I have a limited ability to do things before the battery runs out. I have proactively put it on charge so I’ll be able to blog a little later. I’ve just updated my TBR on my original sign up post, you can check it out here!

11:10am: OK, so I have read lots this morning, but my laptop has decided to start the slowest ever Windows update and has given me the screen of doom. It’s safe to say my mood is now diabolical. Good news, I’ve finished The Count of Monte Cristo finally this weekend/Monday for The Full Monte readalong, and I’m flying with Origin. They made a cute picture of the day for the IG Photo Challenge. You can follow it here at #BoB23IGPhoto.

12:30pm: I’ve just hit 10% updating. This is taking the mick. I mean, nearly 90mins and we’re only 10% through. Remember that gem I mentioned before- that my laptop can’t charge when it’s switched on – well I think it will probably crash before it finishes updating and we all know that spells the end of being able to do anything ever on your laptop. Sigh, I know I’m being overdramatic, but I got up especially to be productive.

14:00pm: I am at work and signed on to everything. I abandoned my laptop, I’m hoping that when I get home it has finished updating and that when I put it on charge it will all be done.

19:00pm: I’m tired, and in my haste to get out of the house whilst fixing my laptop, I completely forgot my lunch that Emma had so kindly made. It was healthy and it was in the fridge ready to go, but I forgot it completely. I’ve decided that I’m having a McDonald’s to make myself feel better, and I ended up convincing a few others too so I am going to get myself some chicken and some ice cream, the answer to everything.

21:45pm: I am about to leave work for home. Liverpool have won and lifted my mood. My McFlurry was amazing. I know I’m not going to be able to post now until tomorrow, but I am in a much better mood.

23:00pm: I am literally climbing into bed having thrown my laptop on charge and laughed at Emma attempting to get up the stairs. I shouldn’t laugh, it’s a bit harsh – she’s hurt her legs this weekend, but it’s amusing. It’s that bad that she might have to see about working from home tomorrow because standing up and sitting down, as well as getting up and down stairs is really difficult. I know, I couldn’t not giggle myself.

The Bout of Books Day 1 challenge hasn’t changed for a few readathons, because there is no point messing with a classic. The challenge is simply to introduce yourself #insixwords:

Intrepid Bibliophile. Exploring Foodie. Scouse Gryffindor.

I haven’t managed to stay awake for the twitter chat this evening/early morning, but I hope you all enjoy it!

Day 2

08:00am: Emma is homeworking today because her legs are still really quite bad. I literally watched her shuffle down the stairs on her bum, so safe to say it’s probably a good idea that she stays at home to work. I spent longer getting ready than I would normally and even had time to eat breakfast. The lack of school traffic has made a huge difference, got to make the most of it while I can.

10:30am: I’m at work, which is great and getting on with things, but can’t help feeling like the commute is currently wasted reading time. I don’t have any audiobooks on the go at the moment, so I feel like I’m missing out. I have Origin in my bag for my lunch, in case I get time to read.

18:40pm: So I didn’t get time to read at work, or at all so far today, buuuuut I have finished the challenge for today, both general challenge and the IG photo challenge. I am really quite pleased with both. I’ve made a decision to have a reading and relaxing day tomorrow, so that’s something I am looking forward to. We’ll see what happens, but it will be nice to have a good day of not doing much except things for myself.

21:00pm: I feel so much better now as I have a post out there. I feel better that I am back on track and catching up interacting with different blogs and twitter people and on Instagram. I feel like I am back!

23:59pm: Ok, so maybe it’s just after midnight but I’ve not slept yet so it’s most definitely still day two, right? I’ve just finishing Dan Brown’s Origin, which I liked even if I thought the ending was predictable. I have a blank empty currently reading section because right now I’m trying to decide what I should read next and struggling a little. Tomorrow should be good though, it’s my day off for this week!

Today’s challenge was an absolute peach, and came courtesy of @rebeccabook17. Simply put, it’s explain a book plot in emojis. It took me a little bit of time to think about what I was going to do, but, I thought and settled on this. What do you think?

What are you reading? How are you liking Bout of Books 23?

  1. Omg, I love HP2 in emoticons!! I’m too late to sign up this time round; it always comes too quickly. Are you hosting a day this time?

(Really annoyed with myself for not signing up, particularly as there is an instagram version as well)

    1. No, I have a lot on at home this time round so I’m just taking part with anything and cheering everyone on, no challenge hosting duties this time!
The Insta version is pretty cool, and relatively new. I love it.
I think HP2 in emoticons might be one of the best challenges I have ever done!
