Fat Friday: Week 37

I knew this glorious weather was going to break at some point, but the wind this week – Gee Whizz it was bad! I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen that written down before! How is your June going? Can you believe that we’re nearly halfway through the year? We’re at that point where you’re closer to putting up your Christmas decorations this year than taking them down last year, which is quite exciting if you love Christmas as much as we do in our house.

Fat Friday is a weekly blog post tracking my weight loss and fitness journey, used to keep myself accountable, keep a record of my progress, and share hints & tips that have helped me. To track my progress, or read my previous entries, click here.

Guys, this week has been busy and it has been hard. Don’t get me wrong, a busy week has stopped me from snacking unnecessarily and has made me plan and think about everything I do, but I don’t really feel like I have stopped. I know that comes from working at the weekend and having my day off in the week, but I feel like my time has been full of stuff this week.

Work has been eventful. There are lots of changes going on, and I am starting a new role on a trial basis on Monday. I’m not sure if the role is for me, but I am giving it a go. It will add another string to my bow and will give me experience in a new role and area of the business, and will allow me to see if sales is actually my thing. I have always been about service and thought I struggled with sales, but I have never actually done sales full time to know if it’s for me or not, so this is my opportunity. I have had a lot of meetings this week, and when I haven’t been in meetings we’ve been busy on the phones. I have to say being busy in work stops me from snacking and definitely makes my day go quicker, which is great when you’re trying to make it to the next meal time without consuming anything unhealthy. I think I am finding a bit of a balance between buying and taking food again when it comes to meals in work, and I am definitely eating healthier during work meal times which was an area that had really slipped over the past month or three.

Outside of work things have been busy as well. I have finally made a bit of an effort with the back of the house (with some help from my parents). Emma and I have become potted plant parents, and I am keeping them alive quite well. They look really good and have taken well, watering them has become part of my routine, and I have to say it does make a difference. I am not quite sure how to keep them looking like this as bits start to die, but they look pretty good. I also have a washing line in the yard now (courtesy of Dad) which has revolutionised how much washing I can do in one go and get on the line/airers. I had a really productive day off on Thursday doing lots of house tasks, tidying bits of my room, moving things into the back room, doing lots of laundry, doing the washing up, and a bit of gardening (as well as blogging) and it’s made me realise how many things I probably need to do in the house. I have these realisations quite often, so I need to try and do something about it while it is fresh in my mind.

I’ve mixed up the things I have done outside of work this week a little bit too. My parents have been away in Scotland visiting friends, so my Gran and I went out for lunch at the local garden centre. It’s nice to spend a little bit of one on one time with her, and they had lentil and bacon soup (pretty much my favourite soup ever) so I couldn’t really say no. Yes, I had illegal bread but who cares, it was a hard day in work before out lunch date. I’ve stuck to my eating rules – no chocolate (except on a choc-ice/in mint choc chip ice cream), no crisps, and bread only on work out days. I’ve gone back to making some of my favourite Lean in 15 recipes – like the chorizo, spinach, tomato, and mozzarrella salad, wrap pizzas, and moroccan spiced food. We discovered that ASDA do frozen bags of sweet potato chunks and decided to give them a go (they’re pretty good), so I’m starting to trial non-bread based meals.

Emma and I have embraced the brilliance that is the jigsaw puzzle this week. Emma came home from work saying she had been looking for Disney puzzles online, and I remembered that we had borrowed my parents 1500 piece puzzle a few months ago but never actually done it. We ended up spending the majority of two evenings doing a puzzle and watching Black Panther and it was glorious. Turns out puzzles are a really good way to burn time without feeling like you’re wasting it, but also keeping you busy and active enough that you don’t feel like stuffing your face. I’ve really taken to MarvelAThon as well, the readathon has got me reading all over again, and I’ve also written a couple of blog posts, so it’s been a productive week.

I’ve also mixed it up a little with exercise too. I still don’t love zumba, but I like the structured nature of the classes and can tone it up and down depending on how I feel that day. Mandy, the instructor, has improved so much as a teacher in the time we have been going, and although she sometimes goes a little too hard when it’s hot, she puts together a much more comprehensive class than she used to. I really feel like it’s a full body workout if I give it as much as I can. The classes fall at decent times for us as well. I did a HIIT session at home this week because I left it too late to go to a class before work and was hit with instant regret. I forgot how hard they are, I need to lose a bit (a lot) more weight before I feel comfortable attempting them on a daily basis. I also discovered a nice walking route at work courtesy of a couple of the girls at work. I really should get out of the building more on my lunch if I can do because it’s nice to get out, to walk, and to get some fresh air.

The holiday countdown has kicked up a notch this week. We now have a countdown chalkboard in our kitchen, we’re officially only 136 days until Disney, and 80 days to Barcelona. I think this is why I am finding it so much easier to suddenly rationalise proper dieting all over again. I really want to shift some more weight before my holidays. I still don’t feel different, and I’d like to be able to notice my weight loss by the time I go on holiday. I just want to feel a little more comfortable in my summer clothes, hopefully fit into some of the nice shorts I had a couple of summers ago, and to look back at my holidays pictures with happiness rather than judgement about my size. I know I will never lose enough weight to look at them and think I am my ideal size, but hopefully I’ll have lost another good chunk of weight by then!

WEIGHT: This week: -2lb Total: -27lb

EXERCISE: 3 Sessions: 1x Zumba, 1x Walk, 1x HIIT

MOOD: Elated

RECIPE/FOOD/SNACK of the week: Hazelnut coffee

HINTS/TIPS of the week: Go for a walk on your lunch break

I am just 1lb off 2 stone lost! 1lb! I was really hoping to hit it this week, but 5lbs in 2 weeks is still a really good loss. I feel like the new diet is working, cutting bread is definitely helping weight loss and feeling less bloated, and I feel like this is manageable in the short run. It’s Father’s Day this weekend, and I am going to Chester Zoo with Emma on Monday, but if am sensible, work out on Sunday before I go round to my parents, and don’t take a stupid lunch with me to the zoo, I should stay on track.

  1. Wow! Only 1lb left before the magic 2 stone! That’s an incredible achievement! Sounds like you’ve got it totally under control, 5lbs in two weeks is pretty awesome – by the time you get to Disney there’ll be nothing left of you! Enjoy the zoo!

    1. I’m really excited to hit 2st, let’s hope it happens this week. I’ll feel so much better if I can say 2st lost.
I feel like I’m back with it now, my holidays are getting tangibly closer which makes it easier to focus.
The zoo was really good thanks 🙂
I can only hope I’m disappearing by Disney haha. I’d love it to be at least 3st by then but we’ll see haha.
