Hi-di-hi campers, the sun was shining today, the temperature hit a barmy 9 degrees, and Spring is officially upon us. I’ve heard bad news that the Beast from the East is going to come back, but considering that next weekend is Easter, and April, I am choosing to look for the positives and continue looking for good weather. Aside from the weather, it’s not been a bad week personally either.

I was in work last Saturday after a difficult week weight loss and fitness wise. I felt rubbish, had put on weight, and was seriously thinking about giving in. I know I would already have binned this diet/health/fitness fiasco if it hadn’t been for these posts, but I was beginning to wonder if they were the right thing for me, or whether they were making me feel rubbish. That said, I was on my period and in a bad mood generally, I was on my 6th day in work in a row, and looking at my first block of days off in over three months, so really I was probably just tired and cranky.
Roll on Sunday, a day off (well, from work, Emma and I still went to Zumba in the morning), and in our house a day of celebration. After a less than brilliant Christmas, full of worries and stresses, our family decided to have another ‘Christmas Dinner’ (turkey roast) now as everything in our family is much brighter and happier. It was really nice, we invited some of the family round, and all congregated at my parents house. Everything was pretty spot on, my brother and his girlfriend did a spectacular job (the stuffing and cheesy leeks were my highlights) and everyone was happy. It wasn’t a replacement for Christmas by any means, but it was a lovely thing to do.
It also put me in a better mood heading into work on Monday. It was an early shift, my favourite kind, and it was my last day in for a week. I had some meetings about a project I’m getting involved with, I had a 1-2-1 with my manager and felt better about my all round progress, and felt a little of the overall crankiness and stress lifting from my shoulders. I think the weight of the world finally stopped crashing and just started to order itself and seem less scary. Putting my out of office on was a lovely feeling, and was made even better by knowing that I had lots of plans for my week off.
First things first, taking my Gran and my Mum out respectively. I haven’t spent that much time with my Gran of late, so, I decided to ring her up and asked if she fancied going out for a perusal of the local shops, coffee and cake. Unsurprisingly she thought it was a great idea, so we set out, looked through some of the spring fashion that was coming into the shops, and had a lovely coffee and cake in Costa Coffee. It was a lovely morning, topped off by seeing my parents and planning more holidays in the afternoon (more on that later!)
On Wednesday, Mum and I set out to Formby Hall Golf and Spa resort for a spa pamper day. I knew Mum wasn’t going through the easiest time over Christmas, and as her birthday is during the festive period, I decided to treat her to a spa day that we could use together when the craziness died down. For Mother’s day, I added on Afternoon tea in the restaurant. The time had come to relax, so we set off in search of a pampering. It was a really nice day. I’ve never done anything remotely like it, but the facial was lovely (and made me think that I should probably take better care of my skin overall) and the facilities were pretty amazing. We lazily swam in the pool, enjoyed the sauna, and had a general natter on some lovely heated loungers in ‘Thermal Heaven’. It was a really nice day, topped off with a lovely afternoon tea in the restaurant. We had a view over the golf course, some nice cakes and sandwiches, as well as a pot of coffee and glass of prosecco each. WE both said instantly we would and should do it again at some point!
Thursday was less about relaxing and more about work. Not work work, but housework and fitness. We had a family day out to the local gym, Dad went for a run on the treadmill and Mum and I went to aquacise. I forgot how much I liked it! I was going to head out and do Zumba in the evening, but after dismantling a wardrobe, hoovering and cleaning the spare room, and sorting all of the stuff that no longer had a home took a lot more time and effort that I thought it would. The spare room looks a lot roomier now the huge piece of furniture has been removed, we can start to think about how we want the room to look once it’s done. I was also going to look at doing my gallery wall, but time and energy ran away with me, so I’ve saved that for another day (maybe a weekend or Monday day off task). The quiz was attended without the worry of a working day to follow on Friday for any of us, which is always nice, and the nachos we decided to have for tea were pretty incredible.
And then today, Friday, was another great day off. Emma decided earlier in the week to book the day off too so we both had a long weekend. We decided to head to Cheshire Oaks today instead of the weekend, a decision that proved to be brilliant as it was relatively quiet and there were some great bargains. If you include the slippers, we came away with a mug, some chocolate, 6 pairs of shoes, some tea and coffee, 2 backpacks, a purse, 1 overnight bag, and a tea bag holder. I’ve been looking into the Dr. Martens breaking in process for over an hour instead of writing this post, oops! We had a great day out though, spent way more money than we probably should have, and enjoyed a soup and drink at Pret. I think Pret might be my lasting legacy from our friendship. When people look back at us, they’ll remember the books and the food without a doubt!
I’ve actually been on a bit of a treat yoself binge. I signed up to a new subscription box this week, Book Box Club, which is due to arrive in April. I’ve only signed up for one box for now, but I’m excited! My Wizarding World Lootcrate has been dispatched ON TIME and is due any day now which I am very pleased about. And the eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed that I have also bought my domain. I have been thinking a lot about my blog recently, and WordPress had a timely sale which means I got my domain and increased storage at a good price. I’m playing in the background with different themes and setting, so you’ll probably notice some changes around here over the coming days and weeks!
The reason I’ve gone into so much detail? You can see I’ve done stuff, lots of stuff, and that’s made me feel better. It’s amazing what a few days off doing things with friends and family can do! I’ve had a bit of time to myself, to relax, read, do bits and bobs around the house, go to different classes, spend time with people, and all round look after myself. Yes, I didn’t exercise as much as I would have liked, but I did bits and bobs outside of classes, I swam a little bit at the spa (a couple of lengths but it all counts) and lifting panels of a wardrobe downstairs should count for something too. I think the warmer weather and brighter days will make a difference, I felt it this week already, even if I have eaten a few unhealthy things along the way.

I have big plans for the weekend. I’m going to Delamere forest for a walk with Emma and my family, it’s reviewathon which will give me an excuse to dedicate time spent blogging to writing reviews, and I am hoping to hoover my room and do my gallery wall. You may or may not recall a post a couple of weeks ago about spring cleaning, well, my room is looking a lot better, more ordered, and once the pictures are up and it’s been cleaned it will be pretty much done. I’m very excited!
I’m also on a holiday roll. There has been a lot of discussion about my parents holiday plans this week which has made me look forward to my planned breaks. They’re off on some grand excursions to Antarctica and South America next year, Asia at the end of this year, and are away in Venice in May. They’ve also rented a big apartment in Barcelona in September, so a few of the family, Emma and I are heading out that way for 4/5days. I can’t wait, I’ve never been to Barca and it’s something to look forward to. After that it’s Disney at the end of October. Dining reservations open on My Disney Experience next month, so planning will well and truly be under way when we hit April.
I’ve decided that I want to give this another crack. Last week was a blip, we all have them. I really want to lose some serious weight before the holiday season, so I’m going to try and maintain this weight loss over Easter, and then once April kicks in, I am going to try and have another serious go. It’s quite hard to click into the mindset of hard dieting. I know that’s not what this is about completely, but if I could have a few weeks of being strict and get over 2 stone weight loss, I think I would feel much better and be able to continue on towards the holidays!
