Do you get a more wonderfully perfect topic than analysing your favourite words from literature and compiling them into one post? No, I don’t think you do either. I absolutely adored this week’s challenge of finding my favourite book quotes, the only problem came from narrowing them down.
For all of you who don’t know what Top Ten Tuesday is, or don’t know how to get involved, click here. The lovely folks at Broke and Bookish teamed together to create this awesome weekly prompt, which is now hosted by the wonderful Jana @ The Artsy Reader Girl. Quite simply, you list the top ten of the topic prompt.
This week, I have elected to do something that I usually dislike. I don’t like leaving a choice without some words of explanation and reasoning, however, in a week all about words, I have decided to let the quotes themselves do the talking:
“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”
– Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
***
“Dreams is full of mystery and magic…..Do not try to understand them.”
– Roald Dahl, The BFG
***
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
– J K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
***
“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.”
– V E Schwab, A Darker Shade of Magic
***
“Not all those who wander are lost”
– J R R Tolkien, Lord of the Rings
***
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
– Neil Gaiman, Coraline
***
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
– Dr. Seuss, Oh The Places You’ll Go
***
“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”
– Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
***
“A world of happier men and happier women who are truer to themselves. And this is how to start: We must raise our daughters differently. We must also raise our sons differently.”
― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, We Should All Be Feminists
***
“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, To gain all while you give, To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live.”
― Hans Christian Andersen, The Fairy Tale of My Life: An Autobiography
It is no surprise that I value adventure so highly when you look at the over-arching theme within these quotes, after all, “books are a uniquely portable form of magic.”
What are you favourite book quotes?
So many good quotes, there’s only a couple that I’m not familiar with. Great list.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this one, there are so many great quotes from books that this could have ended up 100 quotes long haha!

I’d be rubbish at picking out a list of favourite book quotes because I never write them down. And I should because there are some amazing ones. But one that always comes to mind is from the lies of locke lamora :
“I don’t need to be reminded that we’re up to our heads in dark water. I just want you boys to remember – we’re the gods-damned sharks!”
Although that whole book has loads of brilliant quotes that had me grinning like an idiot.

That’s often the thing about book quotes, and movie quotes, you forget your favourites because you don’t get a chance to capture them the way you do when you see a picture perfect moment and take a photo.
That said, this came easy. I love some of these quotes that much that I just know them. Some I didn’t know from literature first, but they’re all favourites just the same.
I like that! It made me smile 🙂

I see that Harper Lee quote from time to time, and each time I see it, I can’t help but think it’s very true. 🙂
