It may be a new year, but some things never change because yes, I am still hauling books. I have slowed down a lot over the past few months, but, my last haul post was pre-Christmas, pre-TBTB Santa, and pre-sales, so there have been quite a few books hauled over the last 2 months! I can’t be blamed for a lot of them, as they were gifts, or purchased using vouchers and gift money! For some reason I have found that this book haul post has featured a lot of very pretty books. Yes, I think a lot of books are very pretty, but this month just seems to feature a lot of really beautiful covers and art work. Let’s get on with the show:
Moonrise Sarah Crossan
This is a signed ARC/proof that I received as one of my TBTB Santa books. I’ve never read anything by Sarah Crossan, and I understand she writes in verse so I’m not sure what to make of that, but I am super excited about giving it a go and reading something new.
Satellite Nick Lake
I put this on my TBR and want to own list because Jenn (my friend in the online book community) had said it was great. AND THEN JENN GOT ME FOR TBTB SANTA. It was clearly meant to be. I’m super excited to give it a go, even with the unusual layout/writing style.
Nyxia Scott Reintgen
I know absolutely nothing about this book, and that makes me smile. The premise sounds pretty awesome and right up my street, so I’m excited to give it a read.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe Lauren James
This book is just so delightfully pretty. Jenn informed me that it was one of her books of 2017 and that’s why she gifted it. I’m super excited about a personal recommendation, and it sounds like such an unusual and fresh idea. Super excited about this!
Bonfire Krysten Ritter
The final book from my TBTB Santa box was one I have been coveting for ages. The cover is stunning, the writer is amazing (well, at acting, this is her first book!) and I had seen it everywhere during comic-con and had been waiting for it to be released.
Exile James Swallow
I was given this by Net Galley a while ago to review, but could never get the e-ARC they sent to open, so when I received a voucher left over from Christmas I decided to treat myself to a paper copy. (Yes, I’ve already read it, and yes, it was brilliant).
Once Upon a Dream Liz Braswell
I haven’t read the other two yet, but I didn’t like having an incomplete series, so, I bought this with my Christmas giftcards. Trilogy complete.
Danny Champion of the World Roald Dahl
I’ve never read this Roald Dahl novel as for some reason it never appealed as much, but it was one of the hardback collection that I didn’t own, so I treated myself.
The Twits Roald Dahl
I have been collecting these hardback editions for a little while now, and there were only a couple left that I needed, so I decided that using my birthday money…
James and the Giant Peach Roald Dahl
…would be the perfect time to finally complete the collection. I’m not going to lie to you guys, they look amazing on my shelf all colourful and pretty.
The Christmasaurus Tom Fletcher
My friend Emma bought this for me for Christmas. She knows I like dinosaurs and knows I like Christmas and she knows that I like Tom Fletcher, so she did well. I started reading it on Christmas day and finished it not long after! It’s so good!
The Lost Plot Genevieve Cogman
I really like the premise of the world Genevieve Cogman has created in the Invisible Library series, but didn’t want to read the previous instalment as I didn’t want it to end. This came out just before Christmas, so I bought it with my Christmas voucher, The covers of these are so shiny, the spines look amazing together on a shelf!
A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens
Emma also purchased this for Christmas for me. I wanted to read it before Christmas 2017 but it never happened, so it was pretty awesome to finally own my own copy, and in such a beautiful Word Cloud Classics edition.
Anne of Green Gables Lucy Maud Montgomery
I was bought a copy of this years ago by my Aunt and Uncle that I (embarrassingly) never read, so when I realised that they did this in the Word Cloud Classics edition I decided I had to buy it.
Black Beauty Anna Sewell
This was on offer after Christmas, in the pretty Word Cloud Classics edition that I collect, so it was an obvious gift card purchase.
The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton
This was also on offer and was much cheaper than these beautiful Word Cloud Classics editions usually are, so I couldn’t say no.
The Beguiled Thomas Cullinan
The Willoughby Book Club really do send a wide range of books to its subscribers, and January was no exception. I’m not sure whether this read is going to be up my street, but I’ll give it a go!
If On A Winter’s Night A Traveler Italo Calvino
I was in Waterstones, perusing as you do, and I stumbled across this. I’ve never heard of it or the author before, but I read the back and decided that I couldn’t put it back on the stand. I feel like this is one of those books that I will need to devour in one sitting.
Animal Farm George Orwell
This was on my wish list for a while, but I wasn’t sure about the editions I had seen online and in the book store. And then I saw these, on offer in HMV, and decided that this was the edition I wanted.
1984 George Orwell
It would have been rude to leave this behind considering it matched with Animal Farm and is a book I love and have wanted to own for a while.
What books have you hauled recently? Do you own any of these books too?
