D’you ever get that feeling? Y’know, the cold weather is here, the wet weather is here, Christmas is over, you’re feeling poor, and you’re desperately searching for a light in the middle of it all? Well, I bring you said light. My favourite readathon is back! Bout of Books 21, wow, 21, can you believe it?! I’ve lost count of how many of these wonderful readathons I’ve now taken part in, I think this might be my tenth?! I am very excited for the New Year, and for this fun, low-key readathon and community to be back.
Bout of Books is a great online readathon, and community, and for the last week in August we’re picking up our books (whatever books you want to read) and reading them at your own pace (I mean it, whether you read a book a day, or a page a week), we’re chatting on twitter, and we’re having a laugh. C’mon, join us, you know you want to!
So, what’s the deal? What’s it all about? Well:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 8th and runs through Sunday, January 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.

Once again, I have the honour and privilege of being a Bout of Books expert. Keep an eye out for me stalking you all on as many forms of social media outlets as I can manage, supporting where I can, and all round getting involved. If you have any questions, please drop me a line on here or find me on twitter @LizHannah25.
Aside from work, fitness and healthy eating goals, and saving money, I don’t have any great plans for January, and I am therefore hoping to read a few books on my TBR. The only real rule of Bout of Books is to enjoy yourself, but I like to set myself some goals and aims, so, as always I have set myself some personal challenges:
- Read/listen to 3 books from 3 different genres.
- Get involved with any/all challenges set daily by the lovely hosts
- Participate in all twitter chats that my work schedule permits, and engage with my fellow Bout of Book-ers!
- Read and comment on other Bout of Books blog posts, and see what others are doing during the week.
I *think* I have settled on a TBR for Bout of Books 21. I’m not sure that I will stick to it as I generally get side-tracked, but, I think I have a good, and varied, starting point!
I’m currently reading Siege and Storm, and listening to The Secret Adversary, so I plan to finish them this weekend if I can, or failing that, at the beginning of the readathon.
- Exile James Swallow
- Ruin and Rising Leigh Bardugo
- The Witches Roald Dahl
- The Bletchley Girls Tessa Dunlop
- Anne of Green Gables Lucy Maud Montgomery
I’m trying to mix it up this time. I am determined to read some classics this year, so I thought Anne of Green Gables is the best place to start. There is a mix of audiobooks, and quick reads on here that will hopefully get my love affair with reading firmly back on track!
