Hello everyone, I’m back! Last week I was on a late shift at work, and completely missed the whole show. Yes, I watched it back later on, but it got to the point where it was too late to write a post, and then I was too sad to write about the sad exit of Susan and Kevin. The show was a pretty good one, and there were some brilliant and spectacular dances (like Joe’s Quickstep – wow!!), and Oti’s shining moment in the pro-dance to Vogue.
It was a very good week for Susan and Kevin to leave, because their dance was joyful and fun, but I was gutted to see them leave. The emotional goodbyes and the genuine, heart felt words when they had been eliminated actually really got to me, and the hilarity that preceded the dance off was so true to them. They looked like they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and as a bonus, it was nice to hear and see that Karen and Kevin do still seem to be going strong. They were much cuter than the weird moments between Mollie and AJ, that if I’m honest, are just a bit sickening now.
And so we move onto week 11. Musicals week is always a fun evening on Strictly, partly because of the costumes, largely because of the over the top performances, and a little because we get an extra pro-dance. This year, the group dance was a homage to ‘Oliver!’ and it was really good. I properly enjoyed it. If you want to watch, click here!
Gemma Atkinson and Aljaz Skorjanec | Quickstep to ‘Hello Dolly!’ from Hello Dolly! (watch here)
These guys are tall and stunning, and they’re doing such a classic and theatrical piece, that I feel like this Quickstep should be really good. I’m not sure if she could have put a bigger feather in her hair.
I really liked that, and thought that the judges have, once again, been unduly rude and harsh. I liked the dance, I thought she had the right amount of sass. I can see why Aljaz looked so unhappy at the end after those comments and scores.

Mollie King and AJ Pritchard | Rumba to ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ from Grease (watch here)
This is going to be beyond painful to watch. Rumbas are awful at the best of times, never mind when the rumours are swirling about the dancers. I don’t like the song or the dance, and after last week, this is probably going to become indecent to watch and the punchline for all the comments and jokes after.
That was just rubbish. I didn’t like it, and I am annoyed that it was marked so highly. I didn’t think it was that smooth or good, and can’t help but wonder if she has got those marks because she is thin and pretty and blonde (again). Yes, that makes me a bitch, but we all know it’s true.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 | Total: 31
Joe McFadden and Katya Jones | Samba to ‘Money Money’ from Cabaret (watch here)
Not gonna lie, this VT doesn’t make him look like a natural at this dance, and I am not entirely sure how this music fits with this style of dance. He has previously struggled when it comes to Latin dances like this, so I’m worried.
That was brilliant. It was weird and themed, but he embraced it with fervour and acted it spectacularly. It just worked so well. I will be rewatching that again, I can tell you that for free. I thought it deserved 40!
Craig: 9 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 10 | Total: 37
Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice | American Smooth to ‘Memory’ from Cats (watch here)
I don’t like her. I don’t like the musical. I don’t like the song. Let’s get the fact I am not going to like this out of the way straight away. I kinda love the fact that Gio has gone full out with the make-up, and ears, and even the cat antics though. Really have warmed to him now.
They’re going to mark that so highly. I can see it coming. I sometimes do think Gio forgets how old she is when he does lifts like that, though it’s hard to understand why when she keeps going on about her age being 59. I have to concede it was good, but I won’t go out of my way to rewatch it so…
Craig: 9 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 | Total: 39
Davood Ghadami and Nadiya Bychkova | Argentine Tango to ‘Phantom of the Opera’ from Phantom of the Opera (watch here)
I bloody love this song. I love this dance. I am expecting big big things here. I am so excited to go and see Ben next week (yes, this time next week Emma and I will be in the theatre in London). Oops, got sidetracked.
I am a little disappointed. I don’t like the fact that they changed the words when they didn’t need to. The dance was in weird blocks and at points it just didn’t look quite right.

Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez | Charleston to ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ from Mary Poppin (watch here)
I have watched these training on his Insta story this week, and since I found out the routine and the music, I have been eagerly awaiting this dance. I think this style will suit them both so much, and I am expecting 10’s. Also, can we just stop and assess how cute it is when Gorka tries to say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious please? How does he look so good in that jacket too?
That was, wow, that was good. I almost think that she was better than him, and completely agree with Craig that her swivel was better than his. The lifts throughout were so sharp and clean, and it was so fun. Loved it.
Craig: 9 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 | Total: 39
- Alexandra & Gorka/Debbie & Giovanni – 39
- Joe & Katya – 37
- Mollie & AJ – 31
- Gemma & Aljaz/Davood & Nadiya – 29
When you look at the leaderboard you suddenly realise how few dancers there are actually left in this competition, and how important it has now become to make sure you vote for your favourite. I have voted for Gemma three times. I’ve just risked that Joe and Alexandra will get through, and if they don’t, that they will win in the dance off.
Tomorrow night is going to be epic. The gals from Dreamgirls are on the show, and they are going to be belting out some tunes along with the pro dancers. It’s going to be sass central. Can’t wait!
