After last week’s spooky Halloween Spectacular, things in the ballroom are returning to normal as we enter November. The numbers are starting to dwindle, each week the competition grows and the less talented celebrities are exiting the dance floor. November is always the time where the 10’s start showing and everyone ups their game, so things should her exciting from now on.
Last week we said goodbye to the awesome chef Simon and his partner Karen, and let me tell you, Shirley is not the only person who is gutted. I loved Simon. He gave it a good go with no shame, he danced to You’ll Never Walk Alone, and he was entertaining throughout. I voted for him repeatedly and I am gutted he won’t be there anymore. But we can’t dwell on his departure and must carry on!
Serious serious props to the wardrobe ladies this week, and for the whole series actually, because Tess and Claudia are absolutely killing it once again. I think I love Claudia’s dress too much this week because it is just everything.
Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez | Cha Cha to ‘I Got The Music In Me’ (watch here)
I really don’t know how many times or how many ways I can say that I am in love with Gorka. For a start he is rocking the flat cap, and he is taking her to a jazz club. He is just perfect. I wish he was a little taller, but if that’s his only fault.
I didn’t actually like that as much as some of their other dances but it was seriously good. Well, I think it was, I spent the entire time watching Gorka in a waistcoat. Well done, that was good. I really did think there was going to be a ten for Craig.
Craig: 9 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 | Total: 39
Mollie King and AJ Pritchard | Foxtrot to ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ (watch here)
I think we were all shocked last week when these two appeared in the dance off but then again, who votes for her? She is mid table and kinda boring. I am completely ambivalent to these two.
OK, so that was alright, but I can tell you now by the end of this show I will have completely forgotten it because it was just boring and unmemorable.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 | Total: 27
Joe McFadden and Katya Jones | Charleston to ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’ (watch here)
I still struggle to look at his face in flashbacks to last weeks dance. Gutted that he had that stupid spidery stuff all over his mouth. I am seriously looking forward to this. He is so happy and smiley and likes a dance he can get into and create a character for.
The outfits are slightly weird, but that was bloody good. The synchronisation between them, and the swivel, and the really cool lift at the end. Yes, I liked that.
Craig: 9 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 | Total: 36
Gemma Atkinson and Aljaz Skorjanec | Salsa to ‘Sun Comes Up’ (watch here)
He is always so smiley. She is always so lovely. I love how he took her to a tiki bar and then there was the most Northern accent that came out of the face of one of the hula dancers.
Oh dear that didn’t look natural and it wasn’t your best dance. It was quite stilted and put together rather than danced. That might be a bit harsh because she danced the dancey bits good but it didn’t floooooow.
Craig: 5 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 | Total: 26
Aston Merrygold and Janette Manrara | Viennese Waltz to ‘Who’s Loving You’ (watch here)
Oh my God, baby Aston on Stars in their eyes as Michael Jackson is possibly the best thing I have ever seen from that show and also the most adorably cute child ever. Damn those are some crazy Viennese Waltz outfits.
It wasn’t traditional and it certainly wasn’t his best, but I think Craig was a bit harsh there for the sake of it. A 4, really?
Craig: 4 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 | Total: 25
Ruth Langsford and Anton Du Beke | Paso Doble to ‘The Shady Dame’ (watch here)
Let’s all be honest, this is probably going to be a bit shit, but having seen his outfit, it’s going to be flamboyant, camp, and so over the top it’s not even true.
Oh Jesus what did I just watch? I swear I saw up her skirt for longer than I needed to after she mounted him. The whole dance was just insane. The theatrics, the parody, the singer, the breaks. OK that was funny and entertaining. I may have to go back and rewatch.
Craig: 4 Darcey: 6 Shirley: 6 Bruno: 6 | Total: 22
Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice | Tango to ‘I Gotta Felling’ (watch here)
Right, guys, I give in. I like Gio. I think it’s been brewing for weeks, and now as he has organised a helicopter ride for her birthday I just gave in. How long is it before I find him attractive? The more I like him though the more I dislike her. Oh well.
OK that was good. That was seriously good. There were bits where it looked a tiny bit skippy and like he was anchoring her and dragging her round, but that was good.
Erm, what’s going on? Why is Craig…I…what’s going on?
Craig: 10 Darcey: 10 Shirley: 10 Bruno: 10 | Total: 40
Jonnie Peacock and Oti Mabuse | Salsa to ‘Turn Me On’ (watch here)
That VT makes me think that this could go very very right or very very wrong. Why does he keep dropping her? I think before this show I would not have said that he would like the Latin dances the best but he seems to like the ones you can play with and have fun.
It wasn’t the smoothest or the one with the most hip action, but the bounce and the enjoyment and the lists were crazy good and he looked like he was having a blast. Bravo.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 7 Bruno: 7 | Total: 27
Susan Calman and Kevin Clifton | Jive to ‘The Ole House’ (watch here)
I was very unhappy last week that people dared to say anything vaguely mean about the mother of dragons and the goddess of happiness and the queen of the dancefloor. How dare you?! I am worried about this by what she has said on twitter and in my stalkings of them. I love how supportive and lovely Kevin is all the time. And Mrs. Calman in the training room too ❤
Oh my gosh I could cry in happiness and joy. They’re just so amazing. I just don’t want their dances to stop because they are just everything that dancing and entertainment should be. The voting needs to open already so I can vote and vote and vote and keep these sweeties in forever.
Craig: 6 Darcey: 7 Shirley: 8 Bruno: 8 | Total: 29
Davood Ghadami and Nadiya Bychkova | American Smooth to ‘This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) (watch here)
I think this might actually be the pairing that I would happily sacrifice to save any of the couples that I am really routing for. I really like the American Smooth but I worry about she will do with it.
LOOK WHAT HAPPENS AND HOW MUCH WE LIKE IT WHEN YOU DANCE WITHOUT RUBBING YOUR CROTCHES AGAINST EACH OTHER. I bloody loved that dance. The concept, the lifts by gosh the lifts, the dress. Stunning.
Craig: 8 Darcey: 9 Shirley: 9 Bruno: 9 | Total: 35
- Debbie & Giovanni – 40
- Alexandra & Gorka – 39
- Joe & Katya – 36
- Davood & Nadiya –
- Susan & Kevin – 29
- Mollie & AJ/Jonnie & Oti – 27
- Gemma & Aljaz – 26
- Aston & Janette – 25

Susan danced well. Alexandra did well. Jonnie did well. I am happy. All my babies are relatively safe and I am hoping that Aston will be OK because let’s be honest that was harsh and unfair and undermarked. I am a little nervous about tomorrow night, but I’ve voted, so all we can do now is wait and hope, right?
And wow, the first 40 of the series. And the first time EVER that Craig has got out of his chair and worshipped anyone. That was unexpected.
Until tomorrow night….
I was going to try and talk all about the perils of the dance off and the quality of the pro dance and the ageless quality of Kelly and the Stereophonics, but let’s be honest, the biggest talking point of the night we none of these. It was the dance off. The dance off was dramatic. The dance off featured someone that no-one would have expected to be in their going into the weekend. As much as I love them, Aston and Janette came second bottom of the leader board, so I am of the opinion it can’t be too shocking, but it doesn’t seem to have gone down well at all! I think I am more annoyed he went instead of Mollie and AJ if I am honest! Oh well, lessons have been learnt, and it was good to see the judges stick to their ‘vote off this dance and this dance only’ ruling, even if they don’t always!
