Fat Friday: Week 4

Hellooooooooo. Was that spooky? It was meant to be spooky. Because, y’know, it’s almost Hallowe’en. Annnnnnnyway, good evening and welcome to another edition of Fat Friday. I have a long weekend off this weekend, which means I have had a Friday off that will lead into a Saturday off and a Sunday off. I realise that it is obvious what a long weekend means, but I so rarely get them that I am making a point of emphasising all of the days off in a little row. It’s the little things in life y’know!

Fat Friday is a weekly blog post tracking my weight loss and fitness journey, used to keep myself accountable, keep a record of my progress, and share hints & tips that have helped me. To track my progress, or read my previous entries, click here.

I am going to start straight away by saying that I (purposely and by choice) fell off the wagon this week in a multitude of ways. I have been aiming for this week to be a week with treat days since I started this diet. It was a month in, it was quantifiable and it was also Emma’s 25th birthday (see the picture of her present that I have only included because I am super proud with how my wrapping efforts turned out!) I always had her birthday in mind as my first treat day, and the closer I got the more I felt like I needed it. I also knew that I was going to be taking Gran for the Afternoon Tea I got her for her birthday, which meant I knew that it was actually going to be a week of two treat days. How naughty but nice!

So, treat day. Well, it wasn’t actually as much of a treat day as planned. We got up late, which was lovely, and didn’t do too much while Emma opened her cards and presents. The plan was to have a Tavern breakfast, go into town to go shopping for a few bits and bobs, go and see Thor: Ragnarok in 3D IMAX, go for Tapas, and come home. We made it for brunch to the Tavern, but went slightly later than originally planned. The Tavern does amazing breakfasts, but portion control is not one of their strong points, so we were stuffed when we left. We parked along the river and walked in to town for a bit of fresh air (and blisters, urgh the blisters) and managed to do the relevant shopping. I completely forgot my chocolate buttons that I was going to eat during the film, which was just as well as we were too full to eat tapas after never mind chocolate in the cinema. We ended up scrapping the tapas and just getting some ASDA create-your-own pizzas instead. All in all, it was a great day, but it wasn’t the planned day I had in mind.

And now for today, the second treat day of the week: Gran’s birthday Afternoon Tea at Patisserie Valerie. I bought this for her before I committed to my diet. I bought this without a thought of it being a treat day, but in fact, it worked quite well. I didn’t want to go too crazy, so I didn’t eat before I went and effectively had it as my lunch. I also did this crazy thing where I just stopped eating when I felt a little full. I tried this theory at the Tavern earlier in the week and found that I didn’t feel sick when I left (which is a very new feeling!) Let me tell you guys, Patisserie Valerie does a mean Afternoon Tea, it was absolutely worth every penny (and Gran loved it too.)

All of this has left me a little off the wagon when it comes to food. I found I snapped back into my healthy eating/diet much quicker and easier than I thought I would do on Wednesday and Thursday. I don’t know whether that was good discipline, or whether it was the promise of another treat day, but whatever it was made me realise that it is possible to have nice things every now and then without feeling like you’ve completely abandoned the diet. I’m not quite sure it will be as easy tomorrow when I wake up, especially as I am off all weekend, but fingers crossed I snap straight back into the routine again.

The big fall this week has actually come in the exercise department. I didn’t have a work yoga session this week as it didn’t fit my work timetable. I didn’t have the Tuesday Yogalates class that Emma and I have previously attended because it was Emma’s birthday. I really couldn’t face spinning first thing this morning, and I basically didn’t compensate by going to swimming or the gym in between. My work schedule was a little all over the place, which stopped Zumba attendance, so really, it was a pitiful fitness performance. I really need to buck my ideas up when it comes to fitness this week. I may be losing weight steadilyish, but I want to start to get fit, and feel healthier, and this is as important if not more important than cutting everything unhealthy.

WEIGHT: This week: -2lb Total: -13lb

MOOD: Surprised

RECIPE/FOOD/SNACK of the week: Heinz Mulligatawny soup

HINTS/TIPS of the week: Treat days are OK

I may have fallen off the wagon a little bit, but I’ve still lost weight, so that makes me happy. I have a steady weight loss rate so far, if I keep that up, or may even up it a couple of weeks, I should just about hit 2 stone lost before Christmas. How awesome would that be?
