Fat Friday: Week 2

Welcome one and all to another edition of  Fat Friday. Welcome back to those who have visited before, and welcome to any newbies.  I’ve still stuck to my diet, I haven’t strayed or wandered, and I have kept up a relatively decent exercise routine. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, and as 3 weeks approaches (yes, 3 whole weeks), I almost feel like I am in a routine.

So how’s it going I’m sure you’re wondering? Well, it’s going OK. I’m reasonably happy with my progress over all so far. I feel like I have snapped into this quite well now, and that I comfortable in saying no. Not only that, I am finding it increasingly easy to just say no as well. I think people around me are being a fabulous mix of encouraging, but also treating me like it’s now normal, which is helping me refuse the things that I don’t want (well, let’s be real, I want them, I just can’t have them on a diet).

I have found a set of exercise classes I like. Well, I’ve absolutely found 2 at my local gym, which are aquacise/aquafit and yogalates. I have now taken part in, and enjoyed a lot, 2 yoga classes at work, and I have also remembered that I really love being in the water. I absolutely love being in the pool, so a class in the water and swimming again is going to provide a pleasant change of pace. I took Emma to an aquafit class this week. I think she liked it, she said she’d go back. I really enjoy it, and it also has the added benefit of feeling very doable, which is a plus. I’ve also remembered this week that the gym can be bearable. OK, so I haven’t actually gone, but I haven’t curled into the foetal position at the thought of it.

I also remembered a little app that I used when I was trying to get fitter and lose a bit of weight when I lived in Thailand. It’s called the 7 minute workout, and it’s very Ronseal. Literally, it is a 7 minute work out ((get it, it does what it says on the tin)well, I thought that was amusing). You can do one designed for the morning, before bed, an abs workout, leg work out, or a classic workout. If you do the classic workout every day for a month you are supposed to see a notable difference. So far, not gonna lie, I have been doing the before bed one, as I haven’t wanted to overdo it with the heavy workouts (yoga and yogalates are not easy on the bits that ache, and also my back – which still hurts from the crash). I think I will try and progress up to doing the classic workout everyday, but for that I will have to get passed the fact that Emma suffered a nosebleed the first time she tried it. Sometimes, my shifts still aren’t going to allow me to easily get to the gym/a class, so having a back up plan that comfortably fits into my week and my routine will hopefully keep me on track.

This week, I’ve also spent quite a bit of money on workout gear. I feel like I’ve got to the point now where I am committed enough to spend my money and invest in this journey. Some of my workout gear is l9oking old or worn or thin so I decided it was high time to invest.

When it comes to food, I am still finding it easy to say no. Emma and I have given the Lean in 15 wrap pizzas another good go, and even though we still haven’t bought a non stick baking tray, or baking paper. It still stuck to the oiled foil, but it was less disastrous than last time. I don’t think either of us ate any foil this time even though mine was still a calzone. I am getting used to taking more lunch (when I say more lunch, I mean that I am taking it with me, and not just buying it.) I have healthy cereal for breakfast at work, plus the re-introduction of overnight oats. I also have remembered that I don’t mind baked potato that much, I still don’t love them, but Emma made it all crispy and with chilli, so I enjoyed it. It was different from something we usually eat, at least.


WEIGHT: This week: -2lb Total: -9lb

EXERCISE: 3 fitness sessions: 1x Aquacise, 1x yogalates, 1x yoga (plus 2 x 7 minute workout)

MOOD:  Optimistically content

I feel like things have been a little bit easier over this weekend, and even though I know I have a long way to go, I am feeling cautiously optimistic. This is doable.
